The Jefferson City Amtrak station is at 101 Jefferson St.  This Amtrak route also makes stops at other towns near the Katy Trail: Sedalia, Hermann, and Washington.  Bikes are allowed to be rolled-on to the trains, making Amtrak a popular option for Katy Trail travellers.  For more details, see the Katy Trail Amtrak Guide.

Getting There

By trail: From the North Jefferson trailhead, follow the Katy Spur trail toward the capitol and to highway 54.  This will lead you to the bridge - note that the bridge only has a bike lane on the northbound side (i.e. you will be riding against traffic going into the city).  Also note that you will be riding right next to high speed (60 MPH) auto traffic.  Some Jefferson City hotels offer shuttles to carry their guests across the bridge.

By car: From highway 70, take exit 148 (Kingdom City exit). Head south on highway 54.

This regional map includes Jefferson City, near the bottom.

Briar Rose B&B. 29 May 2008. Biking with two teen age grandsons from Sedalia to St. Charles. This is a fine B&B. Randy and Jeanette were great hosts. Pick up at N. Jefferson Trail Head was easily done. Very nicely decorated B&B. Great breakfast. Highly recommended. We would stay there again.

We rode across the bridge into Jefferson City. The bike lane is wide and there was no problem at all. There is no need to walk across--just ride your bike like normal!

What's the best route if one wanted to cross the bridge from north to south en route from the trailhead to the train station?

EXCELLENT CHOICE! Thanks Jeanette and Randy for sharing your B&B with us. My husband and I, along with 2 other couples, chose this B&B after viewing the website. We were bicycling the Katy Trail and wanted more than just a hotel room. As it turned out, each couple had their own suite of rooms and private baths. Very, very spacious. Jeanette even had a pan of warm brownies waiting for us when we arrived. And the breakfast the next morning was outstanding. We were served eggs, bacon, biscuits and gravy, fresh fruit, juice, coffee, and more. We certainly did not leave hungry.
We highly recommend this B&B to anyone travelling thru the area. It certainly ranks among the top B&B's we have stayed in.
Thanks to Jeanette and Randy for your hospitality. We really enjoyed our stay with you.... View Full Comment

Rode the bridge in the rain during Thanksgiving. The Bike lane is only on one side of the road and so you have to drive facing traffic. a little intimidating. Okay, but certainly the least pleasant part of the whole Katy trail ride. However, Jefferson City has a lot of hotels and other services.
