My husband and I will be doing a century ride from Jeff city to St. Charles in a month. We're trying to determine definatively which trailheads have water available at the trailheads themselves (not having to go into town to search for water).
Any input will be greatly appreciated!

Great topic! Lets get all the trailheads covered!

New Franklin, McBaine and Hartsburg do. Not sure, but I think Boonville and Rocheport do, too.

Boonville has water. Portland does not. I can't remember if Tebbetts has a water spigot at the trailhead, but there is a small grocery store about a block away and within plain sight of the trail...if they aren't open, there is a pop machine on their front porch that has the most ice cold drinks I've ever had from a pop machine in my entire life (machine is stocked with water and gatorade as well as soda).

North Jefferson has water.

Pilot Grove does have water at the trailhead and a grocery store with pop machines in front just across the street.

Clifton City does not have water, although there is a store just up the hill. It is not open on Sunday tho.

Sedalia has water also.

Thanks so much! As far as the western end of the trail. The following trailheads have water: Clinton, Calhoun (trailhead is not visible from trail, up a slight hill), Windsor (sometimes has a sulfer smell but OK to drink), Green Ridge, Sedalia, Pilot Grove, and Boonville.

We should differentiate between trailheads that have public water access and those that of machines or stores. I have never found public access water at Defiance, Matson or Augusta. One can certainly purchase beverages at Defiance and Augusta.

ACTUALLY THERE IS NO WATER AVAILABLE FROM MATSON TO THE EAST END OF THE TRAIL AT MACHENS. PREVIOUSLY I INCLUDED THE AREAS THAT HAVE DRINKS FOR PURCHASE. ALSO, THERE IS A WATER SPICKET ON THE EAST END OF THE BIKE SHOP IN AUGUSTA. HEADING WEST YOU WILL FIND A WATER FOUNTAIN AT DUTZOW AND ANOTHER ONE AT MARTHASVILLE. NOTHING AT TRELOAR, MCKITTRICK, PORTLAND.

I am owner of the Rivers Edge Campground at Portland and we do have water available, we are located right next to the trailhead, also shower/bathroom on our campground, $10 a nite for tent camping or full rv hook-ups are $20 a nite. The bar is taking new ownership and will be having a live band and street dance on one side of the campground on the 17th of Sept as their grand opening , they are open currently and will be throughout just having an official grand opening to celebrate the bar getting an original family owner back from it's early years open.Holzhauser's Bar and Grill

There is no store in Tebbetts and the bar & grill will be closing at the end of September. There is water in the Turner Shelter right off the trail - the key is hanging on the light pole to the left of the shelter. Not sure if the spigot at the trailhead still works but I'll check when I'm down there next week.
