We have a group going on a bike ride Thursday Sept 18th and were wondering if the Katy Tral is flooded anywhere from Definance to Augusta? Anybody been there in the last few days?

I don't know the answer to your question although I'm curious as well. I am thinking about going to Defiance from Creve Couere Lake in St. Louis. However, if you call Katy Bike Rental in Defiance @ 636-987-2673. I'm sure they would know and be happy to share what they know with you

Well isn't this a revolting bit of news from the DNR:

9/16/08 -- The following sections of trail are closed due to flooding and flood damage:

MM 53.6 to MM 57.5 (east of Weldon Spring to east of Defiance)
MM 66.3 (Augusta) to MM 74 (Dutzow)
MM 84.7 (Treloar) to MM 125 (Mokane)
MM 156.3 to MM 157.9 (in and around Wilton)
MM 161.6 to MM 162.5 (near Easley)
MM 168.5 to MM 170.9 (in and around McBaine)
MM 179 to MM 182.3 (just west of Rocheport)

The trail at MM 189.5 (between New Franklin and Boonville) is very rough, as are many other sections. Short patches of trail also may have minimal water coverage.

Gates have been opened in multiple locations to allow emergency vehicles use of the trail near flooded areas.

Extreme caution is advised to anyone using the trail. Trail users should avoid closed sections and should never go around closure fencing.

Like you said Arkie, very unfortunate news. We have a ride this weekend from St. Charles to Herman... but not looking very promising. Mother Nature can be such a b$^@h... Fingers are still crossed that waters will recede and things will get cleared off quickly.
Does anyone know if there is a number to call to see if they need help clearing the trail? I could probably take some time off thur or fri and run down with the atv and a chainsaw to help.

I live in Augusta and have a B&B. I had three couples arrive yesterday. The trailhead in Augusta and the trail to Klondike Park is passable, my husband biked it last night. However, the trail from that point and into Defiance and beyond is closed until after Weldon Springs. West of Augusta, the trail is open to Marthasville, as of last night, because I had two couples ride that direction in the afternoon.

I just talked to DNR and they said that the Missouri is coming down as well as the tributaries and they would be back out on the trail ASAP. He did mention that the water has removed the fines down to the original ballast rock in some places.
