I don't see any mention here of a shuttle from downtown StL to the Katy Trail

You can call any of the shuttles listed for St. Charles or call a city cab.

the only shuttle that I could find was the touring cyclist, and their store is no where near downtown. I would guess the fare for a cab would be at least $50-60. This is why I have almost never been on the Katy Trail..I live in downtown, and don't own a car

If you don't mind the bus, there's another option:

From Downtown to the Katy Trail (public transit)
updated 7/18/2014

Metro Link (red line) - west to

North Hanley station - Transfer to Bus 34 (runs every 40 min 5am-9:30pm)

Maryland heights expressway (prichard farm road stop, riverport/casino area)
Maryland heights expressway - south on shoulder

Marine Ave - turn left toward Creve Coeur Park (30mph, no shoulder)

Creve Coeur Park - take first enterance on the right and stay left toward the shelter

Bike/walking path - turn right onto the path near the shelter & boat ramp
Bike/walking path - stay right at Y intersection and follow
Bike/walking path - at the circle go left (toward page)

Creve Coeur/Katy connector - after the tunnel stay right at Y intersection (follow page)
Creve Coeur/Katy connector - after you cross the river the path will loop right to a switchback down to the katy trail

Katy trail - (mile marker 42.8) left is east toward st. charles, right is west
