I have to agree that the store owner isn't into customer service for cyclists. He ran out of the store to tell me not to lean my bike against the building even before I had a chance to stop. The atmosphere in the store was thick...with cigarette smoke and I just didn't feel like my money was welcome. To add credence to the not-friendly feeling someone tied a vine all the way across the Katy trail not to far from town. We approached the scene just as another cyclist was cutting it down. As for me, I am not going back.

Ed, I believe I had heard but I have not seen it but some say there is an open patch off the trail near Mokane that legend has it some KT riders met their demise with bike tires sticking out of the grown now. They called him the "Mokane Mauler". In the past at the end of the month some have said they have seen bikers riding with dark faces that seem to just disappear. Please come back Ed.

We have ridden to Mokane from Columbia several times over the years and had fine experiences at the local Mokane store. It has provided us with cold drinks, packaged ice cream treats, and snacks. I'm sad to hear someone had a bad experience there and hope it hasn't become unwelcoming!

We had a horrible experience there this week. I strongly suggest no cyclist stop there, ever. The proprietress does not want our business and told us in no uncertain terms. Too bad because we wanted to support every business on the trail and were treated so well everywhere else.

I visited the Mokane Market on Monday (10/12/15). I didn't need anything, but I really wanted to see what the fuss was all about. I was very prepared for an Ed Debevic's type of experience. Imagine my disappointment when I parked my bike on the side of the store (as the sign asks you to do); I go inside and the gentleman with white hair behind the counter asked me if I was searching for something in particular. He pointed me to the Gatorade and even told me I should consider an ice cream sandwich -- sold! I never got a sense of disdain from him, and before I left another cyclist came in and also was greeted.

The store is missing an opportunity to be a destination -- if they could play up the mean-spirited side of things (but in a joking way), they could get a lot more business from people wanting to experience "something different".

Great idea BB. Like Dicks in San Antonio with paper condoms to put over your helmet so everyone you met on the trail would know what a ________ (fun type person) you are and that you just visited the Mokane Market.

I have had both good and bad experiences there. I guess the bottom line is, while its always nice to get a smile with your purchase, as long as the owner/employee sells you what you need its all good.

It might not be the most cheerful store with the most cheerful people, but they have a table and chairs near the front counter of the general store so we were grateful to have a place to relax for a few minutes. The bananas and energy bars were much needed fuel so we could finish our 75 mile day to Rhineland.

Mokane Market featuring the Son of the Notorius Mokane Mauler especially during the Halloween season. Priceless. I believe Ed Debevic;s closed though recently. Go Royals all the way, we don't need the undeserving chubs.

They need to fix their door latch. Let's just say one employee doesn't like to open the door for customers when it jams.
