Hi! My husband has planned our trip: Day 1 from Sedalia to Rocheport, Day 2 Rocheport to Jefferson City, Day 3 Jeff City to Hermann. Our bikes are in good shape and we are not as dilapidated as we could be. Still I am a bit nervous about the length of each segment and am thinking about backup plans. Probably everything will be OK, but we haven't ridden the Katy Trail before. Could someone please tell us/ give us some ideas: If something goes wrong (or we just conk out) somewhere close to our destination, what are our options for getting picked up and driven the rest of the way we need to go? Could we call a shuttle for a short, unscheduled haul? Or do people take taxis (I see Checker Cab is a shuttle option in the Jeff City area)? Or do you call the BnB and see if they can do anything for you/know someone who might come get you? Or would a bike/tour shop maybe come to the rescue? I'd appreciate hearing what others have done in the past. Thank you and sorry for such a newbie question.

If you know how to change a flat, are not dilapidated, and eat well/hydrate before and during your trip, then you are probably just having pretrip jitters. Yes there are cabs, shuttle services, B&B owners who are willing to help for you dollars, as well as Good Samaritans who often will lend a hand. Plan ahead, lighten up, and don't let your thermal runaway rob you of a good time.

35-50 miles in a day can be done even if you stop 4-5 times. If you have not ridden your bikes more than an hour a day it could be challenging. Most of the B&Bs will pick you up if you call them before you start out. Don't know what "thermal runaway" is but I would not worry too much about it. You may be a little sore but it's all fun especially with the fall foliage turning now.

Paralysis by analysis. Thermal runaway.
