Will be walking KT from Weldon Springs to Portland late spring. Want to stay in Washington and Hermann but am concerned about how pedestrian friendly the bridges into towns are and if not friendly how cross ( shuttle? taxi? swim?)

Walking would be your best bet to get to Hermann. And swimming would be the best option for Washington.

You'll have no trouble walking into Herman except that it's seems to be miles from the Katy, but it's not all that far away. There's a nice bike/walker path on the bridge. For Washington you might want to call a taxi.

Anon and Jerry are right. The only thing I would add is that at least one B & B in Washington, River View B & B at 719 Main St. in Washington will provide a shuttle from the north side of the river to Washington/their B & B. It is a wonderful place. There may only be 2 rooms, but they both have access to a deck with a wonderful view of the Missouri River. There's also a very small pool you can enjoy.

And just to be clear, do not consider walking or biking across the bridge at Washington. It is not even that safe for cars.
