We are wanting to bike between Bluffton and Boonville, only going around 30-35 miles per day. Where would we stay around N Jefferson and where to stay around Huntsdale. I saw there is a Best Value Inn in North Jefferson, but wondering if there is anything closer to the trail? Also wondering if it is safe to bike from the trail toward something in Jefferson City. We saw something called Katy's Little Lodge near Huntsdale, but the website appears to be down, so wondering if it is out of business and if there is anything else in that area-that is safe to get to.

Alternatively, we are thinking about leaving out of the Pilot Grove area and staying Friday night in Rocheport. Then we would end up Saturday night around Jefferson City, and finish up in Herman on Sunday night. Any thoughts?

How about Hartsburg? Eber Haus Inn is great...so is the Globe...

Riding from the KATY into Jefferson City is straightforward. There are signs at the N Jefferson City trail head pointing to the path to the bike lane over the bridge.

We stayed at the Baymont Inn in Jefferson City and the route was hilly, but not unsafe. The staff at the Baymont was very helpful and allowed us to store our tandem and six bikes in a conference room.

Jon is right... you can do that... but if you find yourself tired after the 25 from Rocheport... Hartsburg is an easy on the trail stop... then you can go on to jeff and stay at the Baymont... or if you are feeling ok when you hit hartsburg... you can make it into Jeff depending on how much time you have. if you are coming through Hartsburg... Dotties is open for Lunch Thursdays, Saturday, and Sunday. Happy Trails!

Riding the bridge to Jeff City is very cool, always a highlight of my Katy Trail trips. I'd encourage you to take a side-trip to Jeff City even if you're not spending the night there.

The Cliff Manor Inn in Jefferson City is very easy to get to from the North Jefferson Trailhead. They have excellent ratings. There is an Irish Pub that sells good bar food less than a block from the Inn, Paddy Malone's. And as another poster said, the bike ride over the pedestrian bike bridge at Jefferson City is fantastic. If you want to experience the city, add a day, and tour the Capitol and the Missouri State Penitentiary (MSP) and Prison Museum. Go to the Convention and Visitor's Bureau website for info on the MSP tours. They do ghost tours at night that are very popular. And check out Air B & B and VCRO. I know of 2 places in Jeff City that are on those and are easy bike rides. They are about a mile form the south side of the MO River, but along fairly safe streets. Also, in Tebbetts there is the Turner Shelter that is right on the Katy Trail. It is a self-serve hostel, overseen by volunteers. The key is on a post on the porch, they ask for a $5/night donation. There are bunk beds, showers, a kitchenette, and maybe a place to repair your bike. But there currently are no places to eat in Tebbetts, so you'd need to buy food before you get there.

Another option to staying around Huntsdale would be to bike the 9 or so miles of the MKT spur from McBaine into Columbia. The Tiger Hotel is just 3 or 4 blocks from the Flat Branch trailhead and you're right in downtown Columbia with a lot of dining choices. That will leave you a little over 30 miles to ride to Booneville the next day.

Two of the best B & B's on the trail are in Hartsburg; enough said.

I agree Hartsburg is a great place to stay but its a hard fit given the starting locations and mileage goals.
