Anybody know about walking from Lee's Summit on the Rock Island Trail heading towards Windsor. I would like to park my car in Lee's Summit and walk for about three hours before I turn around and head back.

You need to start in Pleasant Hill. Lee's Summit is about 10 miles from the trailhead. The PH trailhead is actually a significant walking distance from the real start of the trail. The trailhead is at the county fairgrounds. You go out to the local highway, down a ways, then across a field to the start of the trail. Probably quicker to park at the old station, which is also a very nice museum, and walk from there. Once you get to the trail it is a very nice walk. Shaded with foliage. Further along it is more open but the first 3 miles will probably be the most enjoyable for a hiker. Wear shoes with good soles such as hiking boots as you are walking on rocks.

Easy to walk without having to walk on the road. Don't park at the fairgrounds trail head in Pleasant Hill. There is a secondary Pleasant Hill trail head and parking area off Purvis Road east of town. By trail, it is about 3 miles east of the fair ground parking area.

From Purvis Road parking lot, you can walk the whole way to Windsor and beyond if you like. If you walk at 3mph, 3 hours puts you 9 miles east of the Purvis lot.

Keep in mind that there is a significant distance from PH where there are no services. Your proposed walk falls into that realm. A three hour walk east of P Hill, you're in no man's land along the trail. You won't hit any other significant civilization walking 8 or 9 miles out of PH to the east. Take a snack / water with you.

The first services to the east of P Hill are in Chilhowee. There is nothing at Medford other than a parking lot and porta potty. FYI.

Highway 58 east out of Pleasant Hill, turn south on to Purvis Road until you hit the trail head about a mile or mile and a half down the road, roughly.
