Hi, we are planning a weekend ride from Jefferson City to Boonville and back the end of April. We are planning to leave our car and bike trailer in Jefferson City on Friday and come back on Sunday to pick it up. Is there a parking lot that we can safely leave our vehicle and trailer? Also and suggestions for stops along the way for food and drinks are also welcomed.

There is parking at the trailhead in JEF. There are several good stops between JEF and Boonville. Check the trail guide info on the online map. Good stops in Hartsburg, Coopers Landing (Easley) and Rocheport. You would enjoy a Friday night in Rocheport with enterttainment in the old drugstore and a fine dinner at Abigail's. Nothing past Rocheport. On the return try the Thai food at Cooper's Landing.

Thank you for the food and fun suggestions anonymous . It is my understanding that the trailhead in Jefferson City is very secluded and not the safest place to leave a vehicle for extended periods. Is this not the case? A bike shop I spoke with in Jefferson City advised that there is a commuter lot near the trail head but was not able to provide clear directions on how to find it.

If I were driving from Waterloo to ride the Katy, I'd come down the day before my ride and spend the night in Jefferson City. There is a hotel between the capital and the river bridge and there are several just south of the capital grounds a few blocks. Leave your car in the hotel parking lot, ride over the bridge to the trail. Ask ahead of time to make sure the hotel management knows you are leaving your car there. I've never been refused after spending $$ to spend the night. I would not leave my car overnight in a remote parking lot. Things may have changed, but in the past the North Jefferson trailhead lot has had a bad reputation. Error to the side of caution.

The North Jefferson trailhead is nice, but secluded. I don't think I would feel comfortable leaving my car there over a weekend. Maybe consider leaving it at a business' parking lot in Jefferson City proper, and flipping them a $10 bill for the privilege? Or, starting out in Hartsburg or Tebbets, where I would feel safer leaving my car at the trailhead.

I was with a group and we left our cars at the North Jefferson trailhead for three days with no problems. There is always a risk, though, whenever you leave your car unattended that long.

You should call the restaurants in Hartsburg ahead of time to see if they will be open when you are going to be there. When we went through at lunch last year in July, they were all closed. We went through on a weekday, so it might be better on weekends.
