I rode from McKittreck to Hartsburg the second day of an end-to-end trip, and consider Hartsburg a key location on the KT, as it is a natural mid-point and has two excellent B&Bs. I stayed at the Eberhaus (the other is the Globe Hotel), which was exceptional. Hartsburg also has nice camp sites for tenters. The one drawback is the lack of a restaurant open evenings during the week, but the Eberhaus provided an excellent supper (and breakfast!). I would consider Hartsburg a must stop.

There used to be a great bar there that had simple food items. Had lunch there several times. I wonder if it is still open.
