We will be traveling from AZ to MN/WI later this summer. We have never ridden the Katy Trail. Can someone offer 2 or 3 scenic, historic, fun segments to target for a couple days of riding? Since we'll only have maybe 2 or 3 days in the area, I'd like to narrow down some really nice segments to focus on. Thanks!

The painted silos in Matson are cool and a good photo op. The old stone jail in Matson is a few yards from the trailhead there. The Rocheport tunnel. Green Ridge and Pilot Grove are my two favorite trailheads.

Between Clifton City and Pilot Grove - probably about 3 miles or so east of Clifton City - is one of the old railroad signals.

Get on the trail in Rocheport, ride west through the tunnel, and out to the clay tile silo in Pearsons. Ride back to Rocheport, and ride east until you get a view of the river and the bluffs. Ride back to Rocheport and have lunch at Meriwether's

The Boonville to Huntsdale section encompasses the Rocheport area. We've enjoyed this section for many years. The only tunnel on the Katy in Rocheport, the quaintness of Rocheport and the massive limestone bluffs east of Rocheport are worthy of the trip. The historic Hotel Frederick in Boonville is a nice stay as well as other eclectic B&B's in the Rocheport area. The A-frame and bistro at the winery NE of Rocheport have been favorites as well.

The Bluffton to Hermann area has also been a favorite of ours. More limestone bluffs on this route too. Hermann is an awesome stop with its German influence from wineries, breweries, restaurants, quaint shops and awesome B&B's. Swiss Meats a few miles south of town is a great place to pick up brats, summer sausage, etc. to snack on.

My 2 cents worth which may or may not align with your perception of scenic, historic, or fun. The Katy is what it is....a nice meander through central Missouri. Hope you enjoy your visit to our trail!
