I noticed the proposed high speed rail that was mentioned again today in the news is set to travel in the same area as the Katy. Does anyone know if the Katy is at risk of being re-possessed for this purpose? I know CSX uses the Amtrak line on the other side of the river. A fast train can only go as fast as the train in front of it.

That's a good question. I would imagine that most high speeders would require travel on the KC to St. Louis route that Amtrak follows today. I couldn't forsee a high speed need to diverst at Boonville heading towards Clinton.

The planned high speed rail that they are talking about now will follow the current Amtrak route. They would have to add capacity(ie. parrallel tracks) to accomodate high speed trains at many locations that are too congested right now to allow the high speed trains to pass other train traffic. They might also have some straighten some curves to attain the kind of speeds they are talking about. However, none of this will affect the Katy Trail corridor.
