Hi when will Globe be open for reservation for biking season for 2024? In need of reservation for October 2024. Is there a contact to reach now?

CurtM from Farmington AR on 02/10/2024 09:18 PM:
The Globe Hotel B&B is an exceptional accommodation. Excellent rooms/great breakfast/outstanding hosts. You'll find many comments attesting to this under the Hartsburg link on the map. The only caveat is for Hartsburg, not the Globe. Depending on your date and time of arrival, lunch and dinner options are few.

Anne on 02/13/2024 08:03 AM:
Don’t go. Globe was a huge disappointment. Hosts were incredibly rude. We felt like an imposition. No food. Average rooms. Biggest disappointment of the loveliest trail and experience. Stay anywhere but here.

Leaia Clervi from Hartsburg on 02/13/2024 09:23 AM:
Globe Hotel Bed and Breakfast will not be open in 2024.

CurtM from Farmington AR on 02/15/2024 09:26 PM:
It is unfortunate that the Globe will not be open in 2024. Don't know the reason but am sure it is a good one. It is most unfortunate that all the comments about the Globe seem to have disappeared from the forum except the final one (2/13/24) which emphatically does not represent reviews from the previous years. Best wishes to the Clervi in their future endeavors.

Leaia Clervi from Hartsburg on 02/16/2024 08:38 AM:
Thank you, Curt M. We have tried our best. We appreciate your comment and weren't aware the others have been taken down. For the past three years our family situation has taken up most of our energy. It's time for us to move on. The Globe Hotel Bed and Breakfast in Hartsburg will be for sale. Our hope is to find new owners who will reopen it as a bed and breakfast, or we may find someone interested in managing it for us.

Ray (webmaster) on 02/16/2024 10:58 AM:
You will definitely be missed, and I hope it all works out well for you guys.

I have removed the Globe Hotel from the Hartsburg page for now, but the Globe Hotel info page at https://bikekatytrail.com/globe-hotel-bed-breakfast.aspx will remain online with a note explaining that it's closed for now.

The Globe Hotel has long been a favored spot on the Katy Trail. The web page mentioned above has approximately 40 forum comments about the Globe - overwhelmingly positive. There are actually dozens more glowing comments in the forum, spread across the many pages.

Thank you for being part of the Katy Trail community, and for giving so many people so many happy memories.

BikerBoy from Maryville, IL on 02/17/2024 10:05 AM:
Leaia and Mark, I am sorry to hear about your family situation and also about the Globe not opening. You should not be disappointed -- we know you did your best; we saw first-hand how much care you put into restoring the hotel and creating wonderful meals.

The truth is that businesses like the Globe provide not only income for the owners and taxes for the area, but they give an incentive to preserve historical places without taxpayer dollars. The Globe started as a railroad hotel, and you can envision the thousands of railroad workers who used it as their layover spot after a long day. Saving that history is what Mark and Leaia have done on our behalf. But they (indeed, any of us) can only take it so far. These are private businesses and properties, but they all need our support to survive.

So pay attention, MO politicians because your decisions have consequences! If you approve the full Rock Island Trail, businesses like the Globe and Bluffton Barn might have the chance to make it. Certainly, the appeal of a 400+ mile loop would bring more active. high-spending tourists to the state. And, the many small towns along the Rock Island have equally historic and interesting businesses. They don't even have their chance to shine in the sun because the politicians are prioritizing extra highway lanes and other unneeded projects instead of taking advantage with what we have already been given.

DS Douin from KT on 02/28/2024 10:01 AM:
BB, I would direct the MO politicians and bike groups, if the Rock Island trail and KT's continued success are a priority, to increase the lobbying effort to the Hoffman enterprise since they see a real economic benefit for the area.

Leaia Clervi from Hartsburg on 02/28/2024 12:26 PM:
Globe Hotel Bed and Breakfast will remain closed in 2024. We are preparing to move and sell. Any further queries may continue to email: globehotelbedandbreakfast@gmail.com.

If you wish to hold political discussions please begin a new discussion in a separate Subject Matter on this forum.

DS Douin from KT on 03/09/2024 09:51 AM:
My point was maybe the Hoffman Group could be approached to purchase your B&B and maintain its great and kind contribution to the Hartsburg community. No politics intended.

Called today to ask about a tent site. They no longer offer camping. No reason given.

Michael A. Rodemeyer from Hartsburg Mo on 08/13/2023 10:53 AM:
Hartsburg offers FREE camping at their Volunteer Park or their baseball park just south of town. Some set up their tents inside our gazebo, on the floor, or beside the bldg. We will always find a place for you.

Not Me from Wichita on 08/20/2023 07:57 AM:
Beware of local boys on bikes tearing up the bathroom by plugging the toilets with toilet paper rolls and greasing the toilet seats with hand sanitizer. Also a man and woman going down to the ball field in the middle of the night and dancing to loud music. I wont camp there again.

Leaia Clervi from Hartsburg, MO on 08/20/2023 05:44 PM:

Sorry you had a bad experience in Hartsburg; your description does not sound like a usual night in Hartsburg. Furthermore your experience has no connection what so ever to the Globe Hotel Bed and Breakfast.

My wife and I stayed the night at the Globe Hotel on 10/23/21. Spent a couple of hours in Hartsburg at the new Burg Deli and the Hitching Post and then retired to the Hotel. The weather forecast wasn't good for the next day so we decided to leave early before breakfast the next morning to get to our next stop before bad weather hit. Leaia (I hope the spelling is close) fixed us a bag breakfast and a bag lunch that we were still finishing two days later. Great stop!

Mark (and Steve) from Hinckley, Ohio on 06/06/2022 01:36 PM:
My friend and I stayed at the Globe B&B on May 5 on our way across the entire Katy Trail. As the only guests that night, we were each given private rooms for no extra charge, and had a great breakfast in the morning. Before riding I discovered a flat tire, which I was able to quickly find, with the help of a large water tub, fix, and inflate, with the help of a hand pump. They were little things, but were very helpful and appreciated - the type of things, and hosts, which make bicycle trips more memorable and enjoyable. Thank you Leaia and Mark!

October Tour Experince from Washington to Clinton
Mark from Bentonville on 10/21/2021 12:32 PM:
Had a great 2.5 day ride this week (Oct 18-20). Here are some highlights and comments for those touring in the future:

1. Riding on Monday/Tuesday presents risk of finding many business closed. I will choose different days next time.

2. Great lodging experience with the Globe Hotel in Hartsburg (again) and Kim's Cabins in Windsor.

3. Riding East to West is great until you reach Booneville and I had no idea until looked at my Strava data how much elevation gain is experienced in that next 75 mile stretch. For anyone doing that stretch - definitely recommend West to East route!

4. I've never rode through Sedalia before and will not again. Surely there are plans to route Katy around all of that?

5. I will never ride Amtrak again - 4 hour delay on Sunday with very few updates provided. I went from Lee's Summit to Washington and then rode back to Clinton.

6. The experience of nature, solitude and the rural landscape is always better than expected.

7. My fourth trip on the Katy and definitely not my last.

Planning a group ride next fall - Probably going to go Booneville to Hermann

Jerry Whittle from Belleville on 10/21/2021 04:42 PM:
Actually the ride though Sedalia used to be much worse with a lot more of it on the road. The new part of the trail is better but the signage on the roads could be better. There are a lot of intersections to cross on busy streets, but it's not dangerous if you are careful.

Bill in Houston from Houston on 10/25/2021 04:54 PM:
Awww, Sedalia isn't that bad.

But finding a place open on Sunday or Monday can be tricky!

We began our trail ride in Clinton, and Hartsburg was our second night stay. Leaia greeted us with lemonade on the porch which would house our bikes and showed us around the beautiful hotel. We took a short walk to "The Burg" (formerly Dottie's)restaurant for supper. Sandwiches were our only option, but the food was good. We had a nice visit with Leaia after and signed up for our breakfast time. We had twin beds upstairs with multiple half baths and one full bath to share. In the morning Mark made delicious omlettes to order served with potatoes, muffins, and fruit. We were energized and ready for our third day's ride. Thanks Leaia and Mark!

We rode into Hartsburg last week after a long day on the trail. We asked the first person we saw where the hotel was and he said follow me, I’ll show you. Leaia and Mark greeted us at the hotel and showed us around the historic hotel. We relaxed in the evening and enjoyed ice cream with homemade chocolate sauce, so good. Before turning in, we joined Leaia and Mark to see stars and satellites in the dark sky. We got up to fresh coffee and delicious omelette breakfast. It’s a great place to stay along the trail.

Had a wonderful stay after covering 25 miles on foot from Rocheport. So glad I caught her as she had just gotten back from a trip. The room was great, the bed was very comfortable. There was a washer and dryer down the hall and was able to do a small load. She prepared a nice breakfast of pancakes and bacon the following morning. Provided me with enjoyable company. Will definitely stop in again if on the Katy trail in future.

Several miles of the trail were washed out before we got into Hartsburg. The Globe B&B was like an oasis in the middle of the desert. The host was very hospitable, even helped me carry my bags inside when she saw I was exhausted. The next day she made us bag lunches and snacks to take with us. Very comfortable place to stay with a great shower and wonderful host.

We stayed here 4/25/19, and had a delightful beginning to our hike on the Katy Trail at the Globe Hotel. Leaia and Mark were welcoming and accommodating. We were very comfortable. The rooms were immaculate and the breakfast outstanding. They went beyond the standard to keep us well fed with excellent food.

We had a wonderful two-night stay. Leaia and Mark have worked so hard in these 3 years to restore this landmark hotel and continue to pour lots of creative energies into it. The breakfasts were marvelous and they accommodated our time to eat preferences. You can see the Katy Trail right from the Globe. We stayed the night, then drove to the New Franklin Trailhead, parked & biked to the Globe for a 2nd night and then biked to Portland where Marvin Cotten with Cbamshuttle shuttled us back to pick up our car. Made for reasonable 40mile days for us. Leaia overcharged us but caught her error and sent us a $20 refund check - such honesty! Can't go wrong with this B&B:)

Another late night arrival in my trek across the KATY. I called ahead by a couple of hours and Leah and Mark, were accommodating. That glass of lemonade tasted really good :) Breakfast was great and they provided recommendations for places to stay when I got to St. Charles (my next night). Very friendly and welcoming, would stay with them again.

A special thank you to Leah and Mark for sheltering me when storms "reorganized" and cut my ride short. Hartsburg was my turn-around spot for my morning ride but it started to thunder as I pulled into the trailhead. I thought I would wait it out in the café but it was closed so I was just going to sit under their awning but Leah called to me from her front porch and invited me in. Thank you for a safe/dry place to wait for my husband to pick me up.

We loved our stay at this bed and breakfast! Mark and Leaia were really great hosts and made us feel at home. The house is quite lovely with plenty of space. The five of us enjoyed our stay immensely and were very comfortable. It's nearness to the trail is fabulous. But the BEST part of the stay was the breakfast they served us. It was really good and we all enjoyed it very much. We would love to stay here again!

Leaia and Mark were great hosts at their Globe Hotel Bed & Breakfast. We got there early on the Sunday that Pumpkin Fest was going on in the town. They were very accommodating allowing us to drop off our bikes/panniers early so we can wander the town to enjoy the festival going on. We had a nice leisurely night talking to them and the other guests. A good breakfast was served in the morning to get us on the trail again.

After two nights of camping, my friend Chug and I were delighted to arrive at the Globe Hotel B&B and find they had a room for us. Leaia and Mark welcomed us and we felt like we had found an oasis. The outdoor shower was lovely, dinner at Dottie's Cafe was delicious, our real beds with AC were heavenly, and breakfast was yummy. I wanted to stay, but we still had miles to go on our way from Clinton to St. Charles.

Two words come to my mind when I remember the folks at the Globe Hotel Bed and Breakfast, hope and compassion. It was raining when I knocked on their door just before dinner, tired and wet. And, I prayed that they would let me in. They were gracious enough to do so. Let me have dinner with them and the other guests. Fortunately one of my favorites, beef stew, was on the menu. Mmmmm... . And, in the morning a breakfast fit for a king. Shortly after I was on my way. With renewed hope, and a life lesson in kindness and compassion.

I would add a 3rd word: history. It's a privilege to stay in such an historic place. Mark and Leaia did an incredible job of restoring the Globe to its former glory, yet still giving us cyclists the modern conveniences.

We rode the trail June 2017. The hosts were fantastic - serving fruit and warm cookies when we arrived and then a wonderful dinner and breakfast. Our room was enchanting and cool (loved the ceiling fan!) after a long ride. A great local tavern with friendly locals too! We would highly recommend.

My sister and I just stayed at the Globe Hotel, it was great. We came in after riding 16 miles in the rain and they gave a warm welcome even though we were covered with sand and soaking wet. It is right off the trail, the rooms are comfortable and quite. They provided dinner in addition to breakfast and the food was amazing. Super nice people.

I stayed at the Globe last week and it is remarkable to see the updates that Leaia and Mark have done in the last year. I gotta believe that the hotel is in better condition now than it was 100 years ago. Yet they preserve as much as they can, like the original window glass.

They continue to set the bar higher for B&B hospitality, food and conversation.

A friend and I stayed at the Globe Hotel and B&B in mid May. We were tired, wet and windblown riding through very nasty weather. Mark and Leaia were great! We were too late to eat at the diner. Not to worry They had gotten the last of the fried chicken before the diner closed and added some fresh cooking of there own to make us feel right at home.

They went out of our way to accommodate our every need! We were incredibly dirty, no problem! Come on in. We needed help with some minor bike repair. No problem. Here are all the tools and supplies you need.

This is what great service is all about. We will definitely be back!

Amen to that! Actually many Amens. The morning fare was exceptional - worthy itself for making this your choice of B&B. Never a yogurt parfait fan, I have been turned by Leaia's concoction. I now try to emulate the same parfait but fall woefully short. Nonetheless, Leaia's creation has generated a new breakfast routine for me. I am not going to even try and compete with Mark's omelettes. Want to see a magic trick? Watch your willpower disappear when the first one is presented. Great company, great library, great stay, great hosts. We'll definitely be back.

Excellent hospitality. A group of us recently stayed at the Globe and couldn't have asked for better service. Mark and Leaia were amazing hosts and the food was wonderful. You haven't had an omelet until you've had Mark's. Perfect location in the middle of the state just a few hundred feet from the trail. Leaia and Mark made our short stay so welcoming. They are super kind, and know a lot about the history of the Globe B&B, and also about the town of Hartsburg. Coming from CO and NY, it was a pleasure to speak with them and hear more about what they are doing to preserve and run this lovely establishment. Comfortable, quiet, cultural stay which was just what we were seeking while there for our short visit. We certainly have a reason to come back to Hartsburg, apart from the the delicious breakfast we consumed, and look forward to it!

We stayed at the Globe this week while riding the Katy in the extreme heat. The Globe was a welcome sight, and Leaia had cold, fresh lemonade in our hands within 5 minutes of arriving. Leaia and Mark are doing a great job of updating this 120+ year-old railroad hotel while maintaining as much historic charm as possible (e.g. 10" baseboards and wood floors and casings). Because of the heat, we wanted to get an early start and they accommodated us with a very early breakfast that was outstanding. We will certainly be staying here next time through!

This is a great B&B on the trail. I rode from Clinton to Hartsburg and got in late - after 8 pm. The local bar was the only place to eat frozen pizza (local restaurant is closed on Mondays). Without asking Lea made up a plate of spagetti that tasted sooo good. The next morning I was leaving early - like 5:30 AM. Mark got up and made me some eggs. Very nice couple - wish I had more time to spend there. Thanks!

On June 23 we had the pleasure of staying at the Globe B&B and we were pleasantly surprised by the hospitality and accommodations provided by Mark and Leiea at this quaint 1890s vintage hotel. Beautiful old building. Mark and Lelia were very nice to visit with. Breakfast was great, as were the chocolate chip cookies and banana bread. It was great, and I would make a point to stay there again. Hartsburg is a very friendly town. Thanks!

I stayed at the Globe Hotel for one night in the off-season. The owners are very nice people, they really made me feel like home. Everything was closed in town, thus they fixed me a dinner and we enjoyed a good and relaxing conversation. Next morning, I had a full breakfast and was ready for another day at the Katy Trail! Very good experience at a fair price, I highly recommend this place!

We arrived Mon. Oct 12th. Upon our arrival Lea suprised us with a tray of lemonade and water for our room, it tasted so good (thanks). Since the restaurant next door was closed on Mondays, we added dinner to our stay. Mark and Lea were great hosts, very nice room. Would recommend this a super place to stay.

Mark and Leah were wonderful hosts, having fairly recently purchased and started making improvements on the Globe B&B which is literally just across the street from a trailhead. The accommodations were nice and the breakfast wonderful. We left our car for 3 days parked in front of their location, and upon getting back, were met with a hug/hello. It was a very nice experience...and worth the stay. Thanks to them, we had a really good first day start on a 4 day trip.

GROSSARTIG! AWESOME!
That's the way I would describe the hospitality of the new owner couple Mark & Leah!
After 111 miles riding on a dusty Katy trail while temperatures were all day long in the 90F, I got wonderful room, refreshing shower, ice cold beer ("with my Name on it ;-) )and after a recovering night they served an absolutely outstanding breakfast.
Overall an absolutely highly recommendable place to stay!
Mark & Leah thank you!!!

A big shout-out for Mark and Leah! At the end of a hot dusty Trail day from Rocheport to Jeff City, we biked into the Hartsburg station and asked a couple who walked up if there was a place in town to get a cold drink. No, said the couple, who turned out to be Mark and Leah and who then invited us to the porch of their Globe Hotel for fresh lemonade, cookies, and bananas. We enjoyed the refreshments and visit and hope to stay at the hotel next time we ride the Trail. What exceptional hospitality!

Family vacation on the KT, first stop the Globe B&B. No expectations of our stay other than a hot shower, comfy beds and breakfast in the morning. Our stay was so much more – fresh cookies in our rooms (the kids were delighted), carafes of cold water, lemonade and fresh popped popcorn (more delight!) brought to our rooms. Dinner was served family style (homemade pasta sauce, meatballs and veggie casserole, just to give you an idea) and made to order omelets for breakfast w/French toast and so much more. Mark and Leah were gracious hosts, wonderful company. They have a gem in Hartsburg, 5 start quality. Worth the travel, worth the stay. Best of luck to you both!!

I stayed with Mark and Leah over the 4th of July weekend and they were an oasis on trail! The hotel is right off the trail, so we had no trouble finding it. Leah brought carafes of the best cold lemonade and water while we showered off the trail grime. We lounged in the beautiful backyard while Mark prepared an amazing 4th of July BBQ. The hotel is beautiful and the beds are too comfy. Mark made delicious omelets for breakfast along with fresh fruit, juice, muffins. It was hard to leave the next morning. The best part was getting to know Mark and Leah. It was like spending the night with family.

AWESOME!!Mark & Leaia are the new owners of the Globe Hotel B&B and are amazing hosts. From the homemade lemonade and snacks as you get off the trail to the made to order omelets in the morning. They will even coordinate dinner for you if you request it as there aren't many options in Hartsburg after 2pm. As a long time Katy group, we have stayed pretty much everywhere on the trail from Clinton to St Charles and this puts Hartsburg back on our map as a place to stay.

I stopped here when I was soaking wet and cold after a day in the rain, and the new owners were the nicest people I could have hoped for. They dried my clothes and offered me hot coffee and warm food at no charge. People this nice deserve your patronage.

I had a wonderful stay at the Globe Hotel B&B. The rooms were clean, well kept, and plenty spacious. Jeanette was a wonderful host and was a great help to me. Anyone worried about cats running around the hotel shouldn't worry. Most of the cats stay outdoors and I think only one or two cats are actually allowed indoors. During my one night stay I actually didn't see any cats inside the hotel so I don't think they should cause anyone any issues. The breakfast provided was delicious. I recommend this place to anyone planning on staying the night in Hartsburg.

The Globe Hotel is great, as is Jeanette. SAdly she has the Globe up for sale. Are there any folks out there who would like to own and run a great historical B & B?

Does anyone have a picture they would share with me of the Globe Hotel for my blog/website? I am writing about the best of the Katy Trail and although I did not get to stay at the hotel, I popped in to use the restroom and Jeanette shared some wonderful lemonade and conversation with me. She is a real sweetheart. I am kicking myself for not taking a picture. Me site is Bikeworldly.com. My email is megan@bikeworldly.com. I will credit the photo with your full name. Thanks!

Older hotel now doing duty as a B&B. Comfortable bed got a good sleep. Basic breakfast that provided the fuel to ride the trail, four extra take along muffins gave us the mid0morning boost.

Jeanette and Cats and the Globe

I stayed at the Globe back in 2007-008?... and I am thrilled to know that it is still going strong. It was one of the nicest experiences of my life and I will remember it always! Jeanette is wonderful. I do not remember cat smells or anything negative about the Globe. I do remember being happy to see cats because I love them. I am sure that the "cats running out of control like in New York city" (makes me laugh) is a gross exaggeration in that misleading negative review. I do know for sure that I am booking a stay at the Globe in the near future. Can't wait to have that experience again! And... myself and 3 companions loved the continental breakfast!
