Hartsburg Park in Hartsburg

Camped at Volunteer Park on 19 Oct. Nice small park, trailhead facilities (flush toilets and water) nearby. It is permissible to set your tent up in the gazebo. Unfortunately the electric outlets mentioned in other reviews were not working, perhaps a breaker switch was off. Still very a convenient location to camp while on the Katy Trail.

Camped here on a Saturday night. Not a bad spot to sleep, but it's right next to the American Legion Hall, which was hosting a pretty loud band. They played until 10:30 and then there was a lot of noise throughout the night. I'm sure Hartsburg has lots of quiet nights, but if you're a light sleeper I'd aim for somewhere else on a weekend.

Stayed in volunteer park. It was fine. Had electricity at the Pavillion. Water and bathrooms at the trailhead. Beer and pizza at the hitching post. The Burg Cafe only open Friday and Saturday.

I camped here on Memorial Day weekend in 2020. It was great, clean, and free; although there are no official facilities or tent pads, etc.
I just used the KT bathroom facilities. I got dinner at the hitching post and even ran into the mayor who told me it was fine to camp there. It's right next to houses, so you should just plan to be quiet as you could easily disturb the neighbors if you're loud late into the night.

This review is about the Volunteer Park in Hartsburg, it is not the American Legion Park. The park is 40 yards north of the Trailhead next to the caboose. You use the trailhead toilets and water. The park is small and charming. Young couples brought their children to play. The neighbor was very friendly.
This is a lovely, quiet town.
There was no charge for staying here. We did not confirm availability before we arrived, but we were there in October when usage is light. There would definitely NOT be room to stay here if an event was scheduled for the park--you would have to move to the American Legion Park. We camped here on 10/8/20.

Didn't stay there, but it looked like a fairly quiet place to stay. Nice small town. The Katy Trail bathrooms had running water, so it could be a good place to stay. There was a Gazebo some people were camping in since rain was in the forecast.

Do you know if people have weddings here? I think it would be pretty
under the gazebo!
michael rodemeyer from Hartsburg on 04/20/2010 06:01 PM:
The park is called Volunteer Park (for all the people from 32 states who helped rebuild Hartsburg after the 1993 flood). We have had several weddings in the gazeebo and they have turned out well. You should contact our new mayor Gary Caldwell for more info (573-657-7302) or GECALDWELL@centurytel.net

I used this email address today, and it was not a current email address for the mayor of Hartsburg. The respondant said he was not connected with Hartsburg or the KT.
Bud Ditzfeld, Mayor from Hartsburg, MO on 07/08/2011 02:14 PM:
Sorry about that, Linda. The previous post was bad information that never should have been posted. You may reach me at rditzfeld@bjc.org. Thanks.

Has anyone stayed here before? We're thinking of camping here, but the information is sparse...
michael rodemeyer from hartsburg on 05/02/2009 05:01 PM:
There are two places to camp in Hartsburg. One is the American Legion/Lions Ballpark and one is the Volunteer Park next to the red caboose. For small groups and to be close to food and wine the Volunteer Park is best. Larger groups can set up in the baseball field. Either place should be first approved by Bill Abrahams first to see if there are any events scheduled) his # is 573-657-2317.

There is a gazebo in the park. My friend and I just rolled our sleeping bags out and had a roof over our heads.

My 9 year old son and I are planning a ride on the Katy Trail over Easter Weekend. We typically stay in Rocheport, but are considering a new destination this time around. Are the restaurants in Hartsburg good... and kid friendly? Can we easily ride to Rocheport from Hartsburg? Thanks for your thoughts/suggestions.
