Jerry is a great host. Kind and considerate. We had a lovely room with a very comfortable bed. Great shower. Jerry welcomed us with a cold drink, entertained us with local tales and his very interesting and varied career. He helped us out with laundry, cooked us a delicious breakfast, took us to the medical centre for a case of poison ivy, and then to get medicine. When we discovered a flat tyre as we were leaving he immediately helped us. A great host - don’t miss Jerry’s place on your Katy Trail adventure. (Helen and Max Mason from New Zealand - we have spent the last 2 months cycling 1,870 miles before our son’s wedding in Arkansas.- happy trails!)

Last weekend I stayed at Katy Junction B&B owned and operated by Jerry Selbach in Pilot Grove, just off the Katy trail. I mentioned to Jerry
over the phone, I wanted to get out of town for my birthday and I would traveling alone therefore, I only needed one bed, but I preferred to have my own bathroom. Fortunately, the Inn was not fully booked
just myself and a couple driving in from Oklahoma. I had the entire upstairs to myself. Jerry surprised me with a homemade birthday cake which the four of us enjoyed that evening. After a
Wonderful night's sleep in my private quarters, I came down for breakfast I was pleasantly surprised to see Jerry wearing starch white chef attire! Jerry served up a delicious breakfast of scrambled eggs and cheese, hash browns, sausage patties fresh fruit, toast, jam, juice, and coffee. The kind-hearted host wasn't finished yet, he presented me with a birthday card. When it was time to go, Jerry helped me with my bags. We hugged goodbye in the driveway. As I drove away I thought my
to myself, that was one of the best birthday's ever!

The Katy Junction B&B in Pilot Grove is an awesome stop on the Katy Trail and I'm so happy we stayed there! The owner Jerry Selbach is a kind hearted host who sat with us and told us tales of Pilot Grove and of his life. The room was super comfortable and a good respite for my husband who was biking the trail. The breakfast was delicious and the night before we got to try some vanilla ice cream with pepper jelly and it was amazing! Thank you for the wonderful stay, Jerry!!

The Katy Junction B&B in Pilot Grove is a rare jewel in small town accommodations because there are few places of that caliber in the small towns between bigger cities. It's also a good stopping point in that long stretch between Sedalia and Boonville if you need an overnight break. Owner Jerry Selbach is delightful, a lifelong Pilot Grove resident who knows both the local history and everyone in town. We had a wonderful stay in comfortable beds and hot breakfast, with extra treats like a special cocktail slush and vanilla ice cream with pepper jelly. So yummy! You can also make arrangements for him to provide dinner which is great because there aren't many options in town except Casey's Pizza. Highly recommend.

Katarina's Homestyle Cafe and Deon's are options as well.

This is a great place to stay along the trail with an outstanding host. Jerry works to ensure you are not only taken care of and comfortable, but that you have a great experience. From his warm welcoming to meeting any need I had for biking the trail, he is flexible and makes sure your time with him is memorable. I can say that there is no other B&B I have experienced with such a kind soul. Already looking forward to a return trip in the future.

For a hiker, the long stretch between Sedalia and Pilot Grove is tough; a marathon at 26 miles. I was pretty wrecked when I limped into Jerry’s cozy home-away-from home. The kind welcome and lovely room soothed my exhausted soul. Jerry ministers without intruding, which to me, is the perfect host. Great night’s sleep in a very comfy room, then a jolly home-cooked breakfast to send me on my way. Katy Junction B&B restored me, both physically with a wonderful room and breakfast, and also mentally with Jerry’s kindness. He made me laugh, too and that’s a great way to start the day!
Trail Ride - September 20-22, 2023
Mark from Bentonville on 09/29/2023 06:53 AM:
Enjoyed a memorable end-to-end ride on September 20-22. Stayed with Jerry at the Katy B&B in Pilot Grave (second stay) and Joey at the Victorian house in McKittrick. Both great lodging choices and each have a great breakfast available. We also learned once again you need to plan ahead for finding food in that stretch between Booneville and McKittrick. Seems there are fewer businesses open each year (sad). We were fortunate to have someone give us some fruit in Hartsburg. Saw plenty of wildlife. More snakes this year which I really enjoy seeing. Even saw 2 copperheads.
Looking forward to coming back. This was my 7th trip since 2012. We live 3 hours south of Clinton in Arkansas so it is a bit of a drive and always challenging to plan shuttle or Amtrak options.

You might not have heard about "Happy Trails", a new enterprise run be Rachel Collins in Tebbets. They don't have a facility, but will leave a wonderful sack lunch or dinner in a frig inside the Turner Katy Trail Shelter. The key is available to get inside. We had a great lunch, and there was so much food that we were able to share with other folks sitting around the picnic table at the Tebbets Trailhead.

Katy Junction was a great stay for my first night on the trail on 9/1/23. Jerry takes such great care of his guests! I ended up getting pizza for dinner at Casey's and Jerry had made banana pudding to have for dessert that was delicious! He also asked about dietary restrictions and made a vegetarian breakfast for me of eggs, hash browns, coffee and toast that was just the fuel I needed to hit the trail. It was a comfortable place to stay with a secure place to store my bike.

Overdue to comment on our stay here. My wife and were here on 6/16 and were biking the trail. Jerry is a wonderful host, bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Breakfast was great the next morning and we were on our way. Jerry went way above and beyond that morning. We were only 3 miles west when we got a flat tire (our only one of the trip, btw). The head for my CO2 cartridge wasn't functioning (new one bought in Sedalia). One of us was going to ride back to Jerry's to see if we could borrow his floor pump, but we thought it would be a good idea to call first. He insisted on driving out to us with his pump...way above and beyond. He was out there shortly, we changed the tire and went on our way. Thanks, Jerry!!!

Spent the evening of 6/20/23 at Katy Junction B&B. Jerry was a great host as always, and this B&B is most welcome after a long day's ride. My one regret is that I couldn't get to Pilot Grove from Clinton any earlier; will have to adjust the future itinerary somehow to spend a bit more time in Pilot Grove. Thanks again for being a super host.

What a splendid experience to stay here after 62 miles of riding (Day 1) from Clinton. My Grandson and my first time riding the entire trail. Jerry’s knowledge of the area and history , and entertaining personality made this stay a 5 star + stay. Every detail of our stay made us feel welcomed and special. In a world where customer service is being replaced by voice machines and text messages Jerry stands out with extra ordinary service. To boot, Jerry is a great chef! From accommodating us with a late arrival, dietary restrictions, to loaning a few tools we had all the assistance needed. Needless to stay, we highly recommend the Katy Junction B & B and Jerry. He is also close to Arrow Rock ! Thanks Jerry for a great time.

This was my first time on Katy Trail but I was biking with some seasoned Katy Trail riders. They had booked with Jerry before and knew it to be a great place to stay. My brother and I stayed at the Katy Junction B&B for one night on our trek east on the trail. Jerry was super kind and very accommodating! We arrived after a couple of hours of riding in the rain - he made us a cocktail, cleaned up our bikes for us and stored them in the garage, and made sure we were comfortable in the house. He also made us a nice breakfast before leaving in the morning. The price was very reasonable and the hospitality was fabulous. It's worth a stay! Thank you Jerry!

I third Jerry & Katy Junction B&B.
Had a great time at Jerry's & it's everything you'd want in a B&B. It's super clean & charming inside. We opted for dinner & glad we did. To top it off, Jerry's a great cook. He made a salad just picked out of his garden, pork chops, & a nice desert topped with fresh fruit. Jerry's the type of guy that enjoys his guests & will give the shirt off his back if you're in need. Can't say enough.

An amazing stay to say the least. Jerry is what I call a superhost, Casey's, katrina's and Deon's are .1 miles walking distance. Deon's is closed on Mondays and katrina's is open until 2pm so if you arrive later in the day can't go wrong with Casey's pizza, call ahead 30 minutes for fresh.or they always have by the slice. The Bed and Breakfast stay was comfortable and met other Great People. Big Breakfast, if you leave hungry it's Your fault. If there are enough mouths to be fed for dinner Jerry is kind enough to prepare. Great Food, environment and best of all People.

We had the pleasure of staying at Katy Junction B&B in Pilot Grove April 27 (going west on KT) and May 1, 2022 (going east on KT). The B&B is clean, warm and comfy and very close to the trail. Bikes are stored in the locked garage behind the house. Jerry greeted us with chocolate covered strawberries and a drink our first night and provided orange chiffon pie for dessert the second. Both nights, he stayed for a while to chat and give us an overview of the area. Each morning, he made a hearty breakfast for us at the time we requested, and stayed to chat and see us off.
We highly recommend Katy Junction B&B; Jerry clearly loves what he does and feels like our new friend.

The best part about bicycling the Katy Trail is staying at places like the Katy Junction in Pilot Grove. Jerry restored my faith in humanity. He shared his love of Pilot Grove and the people that come through it. He has a good sense humor and knows when to give you some privacy. He works hard to take care of your needs. He is a very smart guy doing good in his community, before as a police officer and now as an inn keeper. A place not to miss!

We showed up at the Katy Junction B&B doorstep tired and wet. Thankfully, it is right off the trail. We had a phone number from the Katy Trail guidebook yet couldn't quite get through. However, there are several phone numbers on the front door and we connected in no time to Jerry. There was a room available and he immediately made us feel at home. His place is clean, cozy and comfortable. Jerry is an amazing man with a wealth of information at his fingertips. He made us a delicious breakfast in the morning of fruit, coffee, toast with jam and a cheese/ham omlette. We were ready to ride. I highly recommend his place. He goes above and beyond what is expected. Thank you,Jerry.?

This is the third time I've stayed at Katy Junction B&B over the past few years, and what a great place and great host. Got in late due to a flat at MP 206, but Jerry graciously returned to the B&B as I dragged my sorry self into Pilot Grove. Lots of great conversation, a good night's sleep and a great breakfast. Jerry provided a wonderful perspective on the area and the types of Katy Trail travelers (at least those who transit Pilot Grove), all of which enabled me to see the KT in a new and more expansive way. A real ambassador for the trail, a real treasure for cyclists and Missouri.

We began our trail ride in Clinton, and Jerry's Katy Junction was our first night stop. We were plagued with a reoccurring flat tire until Sedalia, so it was near dusk when we made it to Jerry's. His graciousness began with cocktails and chocolate covered strawberries that were a welcome treat! We enjoyed visiting with Jerry while we ate Casey's pizza for supper. Our bikes were safe in his garage, we washed our clothes for a small fee, and our beds were inviting and comfortable. Jerry served us fruit and biscuits with meat gravy for breakfast and filled our bottles with ice water. We felt pampered and ready for our second day's travels! Thanks Jerry!

I stayed at the Katy Junction B&B on June 14. I reserved it only the week before to avoid camping for all five nights of my Katy Trail east-to-west ride. Boy, did I luck out! Jerry is a wonderful host. His place in Pilot Grove is clean and comfy. Furthermore, he washed all my clothes and let me work on my bike in his garage. I slept well and had a wonderful breakfast before departing for my last day. I enjoyed visiting with Jerry about the area history and the Katy Trail. A couple of weeks ago while riding on the trail I passed through Pilot Grove, the first time I camped at the city park. On my return trip, I opted to stay at the Katy Junction B&B. While I could have kept on riding that day I had decided to stay there because I had had several long conversations with Jerry Selbach the owner. He is a very pleasant person and always ready to help users of the Katy Trail.
We had a lot of time to talk that afternoon, we traded stories about the history of this section of MO, and about VA where I come from.

Our little bike riding group rode the Katy Trail in its entirety, as well as the Rock Island. With stays in St Charles, Hermann, Jefferson City, Pilot Grove and Winsor. The Katy Junction B&B in Pilot Grove was by far the best. It is right by the trail, so it is easy to find. And there is no riding in traffic. Once there we found the owner operator Jerry to be the most gracious host. He is personal and willing to help with anything you could possibly ask for. The garage where we were able to secure our bikes was equipped with tools and some spare parts. The house is very clean and nicely decorated. Jerry can make a hot meal for you should you need it. After our long day of riding mostly in the rain, we needed it. The meal was fantastic. After supper Jerry even washed our dirty laundry for a more than reasonable price. In the morning we were greeted to hot coffee and another great meal. After our stay I can say I have a new friend in Jerry. If I am ever back in the area, I am willing to go out of my way to stay there. Thank you, Jerry, for making this stay something to remember.

We stayed here because of the positive comments. Jerry's B&B house is about 100 years old, as are many of the B&B's across the country. However, Jerry's smells like it's 100 years old. It could definitely stand a thorough cleaning. I was even dubious about the cleanliness of the sheets and towels. Jerry told us he likes to provide everything he can think of for his guests. He did provide everything, but everything was tainted with dirt, especially his running stream of racist remarks. I will never stay here again.
BikerBoy from Maryville, IL on 11/03/2017 03:10 PM:
Wow, I can't believe I just read that. I have stayed at nearly all the B&Bs on the trail, and Jerry's is one of the best. The place is kept very clean compared to many, more modern homes. The wood floors and the staircase all appear to be original, but in very good shape. And I have never heard a negative word come from Jerry (who sounds uncannily like Paul Harvey).
CurtM from Fort Worth TX on 11/06/2017 01:00 PM:
Having stayed at Jerry's B&B a few days ago on Oct 30th, Anonymous's comments are totally unfounded. Jerry was friendly, accommodating and gracious, and his home was clean and inviting. On the morning of my departure, he even caught up with his other Oct 30 guests down the trail to make sure they got the items they'd left behind. Anyone who signs a critical comment on a public forum as "Anonymous" has no merit.
Mike Hobart from Russellville KY on 11/07/2017 12:55 PM:
Whoever “Anonymous” is; has really misrepresented a wonderful person and a great B&B. I stayed with Jerry last week and the place was very clean, had a comfortable bed and did NOT smell. Jerry is a retired police officer and Air Force reservist who has not only served his country but community. He loves his country, his community and his fellow man. I met him for the first time in my life last week and after staying with him and indulging in numerous conversations; I never heard him say anything that could be interpreted as racist. I’m sorry that someone has cruelly and anonymously attacked a fine human being and a great B&B. He has had hundreds if not thousands of visitors and most of them are repeat visitors. I would not hesitate to stay there again and if you give any credence to Anonymous I would suggest that you read on down further and see if you don’t find positive review after positive review.

Hey there! I just have to make a comment here. We have had hundreds of guests over the past few years who have typically spent the night before with Jerry in Pilot Grove. Not once has anyone ever said anything about the cleanliness of his house nor has there ever been any mention of him making racial comments. My dad and I stayed at the Katy Junction B&B Saturday June 9th. After an incredibly hot day on the trail filled with flat tires and mechanical difficulties Jerry's B&B was a sight for sore eyes. He brought us ice water as we sat in the garden to cool off. He helped us get our bikes into storage once we had recovered from the heat. We stayed in the room with twin beds and it was perfect. We lucked out for dinner, Jerry's church was having their annual fish fry and invited us. It was a great dinner and great company. Sunday morning Jerry made omelettes for us. They were delicious! A great meal to start another day of biking! Thanks Jerry :)

My son and I stayed with Jerry and I can’t say enough good things. We rode this past Memorial Day weekend and we were in rough shape from the heat when we arrived. He helped us get our bikes into storage and he continuously looked for ways to help us cool down and get comfortable. Jerry will fill you with some good stories as he is an Airforce vet, retired police officer, active member in his community, and just a very caring person. Thank you Jerry.

The Katy Junction B&B is definitely a great place to stay. Jerry is a warm, friendly, helpful host who goes out of his way to make his guests feel welcome and comfortable. He's a fine cook and even had chocolate/banana pie waiting after we returned from getting dinner at Casey's. I recommend the Katy Junction B&B to everyone and would plan to stay here again if I were to spend days on the trail again. Thanks, Jerry!

Jerry has thought of everything!!
Bike storage, comfy beds, toiletries, hearty breakfast, full use of the lounge and screened porch. We walked across the road for dinner and arrived back to Jerry's dessert (banana pudding). Jerry is a wonderful host. He even gave us some leftover banana bread to take with us. Do not ride past this place!!

This was our first stop after 25 miles from Sedalia to Pilot Grove. Jerry, the host is the consummate host/chef! Of the 3 places we stayed on our 4 day trek from Sedalia to Jefferson City I enjoyed his breakfast the most! It was hearty and delicious! We are so glad that he has opened his beautiful home to those needing a place for the night from the Trail! The bed was comfortable and the room had everything we needed. We used the hall bathroom which was well stocked with fresh towels and a blow dryer. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to anyone else traveling along the KT Trail.

I recently stayed at the Katy Junction with my 9 year old son as we traversed the Katy. The accommodations were comfortable and our host was wonderful! Everything was just great!! And, as an added bonus, Pilot Grove has a great community park complete with a swimming pool. We just arrived too late to take advantage of that!!
A very sincere thanks for a wonderful stay!!

Absolutely amazing experience, as usual! The house is lovely and Jerry is a wonderful, gracious host! This was our second year at Katy Junction B&B and it won't be our last. From beautiful accommodations to Jerry's wonderful cooking and company, this is hands down one of my favorite vacation spots. Thanks, Jerry!

Jerry is not only a great cook, he goes out-of-the-way to help out. I'm walking the trail and Jerry picked me up at Boonville and then drove me to Clifton City so I could walk to his B&B and then finish me walk the next day back to my car. He also dried out my very wet clothes having been caught in an unexpected rain shower.

Hi There,
We're planning to ride the katy in October. We're tall guys, 6'7". Does the Katy Junction B&B have longer beds to accomodate taller people?
Thanks,

Dude, CA or Klondike kings are sparse here in MO on the trail. You just adjust an sleep diagonal in a regular king. Or just do a bag on the ground at a park an you don't need to worry. Are you under 30 or something? Wow!

Jerry (the owner) is a great guy that helped us out of a jam. He let us pitch our tent in the back yard of the b&b after we found out that there was a wedding reception at the city park that was going to last well past midnight.

We LOVED the Katy Junction B&B! We had planned to camp in the park but were less than thrilled with the yucky bathrooms when we got there. So we called Jerry at the last minute and booked a room for the night. We loved the house, comfy room and the wonderful screened in porch overlooking the Pilot Grove Trailhead (can't get any more conveniently located than that!). Jerry is a wonderful host and a fantastic cook. We enjoyed his company and his delicious breakfast. We'll definitely stay there again!!

Had a great stay. Jerry had everything ready. The rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable. Upstairs has two bedrooms and a second bathroom. The back yard has seating and tables which is very nice, but the front porch was our favorite. He even locked our bikes in his garage. Jerry is quite the cook and prepared a great dinner and breakfast. No complaints whatsoever.

Loved the house, very cute. Lot of rooms. Jerry was absent most of our stay. His sister took care of breakfast and collecting our money. Breakfast was biscuits and gravy and was delicious. The carpet in our room had not been vacuumed before we arrived. Lots of hair and bits of grass on it. The bathroom was not cleaned well. The bathmat in the tub was slimy, the faucet was still spotted with toothpaste from previous guests, and there was some paper in the bathroom trash. Beds were clean. Everything else looked good. Bikes were locked in the garage overnight for safe storage. Overall, it was a good stay.

Pilot Junction is a pleasant little village along side the Katy Trail. Bike storage in a garage is the best I've encountered from St. Charles. The house and bedrooms are quite inviting. They are not overly decorated and present a pleasant home atmosphere. I visited Joyce's Quilt and Fabric Shop. Joyce Day is a wonderful person to talk with about her passion for quilting. Be sure to visit the 1892 Calaboose.

My experience is similar to those previously posted. Jerry is a great host and was a friendly and welcoming face when my friend and I needed one. Hospitality was above and beyond. Wonderful experience. Highly recommended to anyone and everyone. Stone's throw away from Deon's Bar and Grill. I will definitely return. Thanks Jerry!

Jerry was a fantastic host, from the moment we arrived he made us feel like an invited guest instead of a paying customer. With prior notice he fixed us a fantastic dinner at a very reasonable price. Breakfast the next morning was hearty home cooking. Nothing could have made our stay better. We were the only guest that evening so we had the place to ourselves with plenty of room.

Jerry, our host, is one of those genuine and kind countryfolk. The only restaurant in town is currently closed for renovation, so he made dinner for us as well. A retired veteran & policeman, he loves to socialize and was full of interesting stories to tell. He is practically a walking encyclopedia as well as a busy, active citizen. We found him quite entertaining. We also found him to be very resourceful and willing to go out of his way to be of help, as I had heat exhaustion and needed a Plan B. He referred me to a shuttle, was happy to drive me to Boonville where I could catch the shuttle to Jeff City. What a blessing!

Jerry is a most gracious and accommodating host and a very good cook. We had a great breakfast the morning before we left Pilot Grove. Everything Jerry provided for my friend and me (clean, comfortable rooms and bathroom; bicycle accessories; etc.) was top-notch, but he topped all of these when he, without hesitation, transported my friend and me more than an hour's drive when my wife had an accident in Nebraska that required hospitalization. Thanks, Jerry, you're a great guy and great host.
