After so many stays at Meyers Hilltop Farm over 20 years it broke our hearts when they finally retired the BnB. Maggie and Eldon are the most wonderful hosts and simply beautiful people. We wish them many more years of peaceful retirement. We love you Maggie & Eldon

Meyers Hilltop Farm is awesome. After 3 hrs of riding through thunderstorms on the trail, they were a welcome site. I was so exhausted after my ride that they carried all my bags up to my room while I was putting my bike away. Very friendly, spirited, helpful couple, who treat you like your one of their family that has come to visit. I felt like I was staying with my favorite grandparents. Breakfast was the best meal I've had so far on this trip and I almost had to fight Maggie to keep her from giving more food (so stuffed).

Jerry from Maine on 06/18/2014 11:22 PM:
I was there with James, too, at that time. Maggie is great and the Farm is a highlight for any trip on the KATY. Great time. Great place.

Meyer's Hilltop Farm was the perfect conclusion to our first 45 miles on the beautiful Katy Trail. The Meyer's warm welcome, beautiful home, generous tour of amazing Hermann, and 5 star breakfast are well worth another visit in the near future.

Meyer's Hilltop was our favorite B&B on our trip. Eldon and Maggie are wonderful hosts and have great personalities. Our breakfast was fantastic and their guests feel exactly like family.

What a great B&B! Maggie & Eldon are great hosts. They go out of the way to make you feel at home. The suite was very comfortable and with a private entrance, you forget you are staying in someone else's home. Maggie made us a delicious breakfast full of fuel for cyclist. I highly recommend this B&B and would stay here again in a second! Thanks Maggie & Eldon.

Do not pass this B & B up. The farm is nestled back in the woods on top of the hill and is so peaceful, relaxing and well maintained. Maggie made us delicious oatmeal buttermilk pancakes for breakfast that were to die for. Eldon and Maggie are the most adorable hosts. We most definitely will include it in our trip next year.

Meyer Hill Top Farm is great. It is on top of a hill and after 55 miles a tough climb to the top, but they will drive down and pick you up. They are good people and shuttled us back and forth to Hermann. I arrived with two flat tires, happened just a mile away, they helped get us back on the road and the food was wonderful. Room are very good. The ride to Herman was easy from their place.
Eldon and Maggie, are great with people. We would stay again.

Meyer Hill Top Farm is just on the other side of the river from Hermann.

The house and farm are beautiful and the couple, Eldon and Maggie, who

run the place were very warm and helpful. They shuttled us back and

forth from Hermann twice. Once after our day visiting there and then

again the next morning when we realized that a piece from my bike had

fallen off the day before and was now missing. Eldon even called the

owner of the bike shop and talked him into opening early so that we

could get back on the road quickly.

We recently rode the trail all the way from Clinton to St. Charles. We stayed at Meyers Hilltop on March 17th. Maggie and Eldon are great hosts. They gave us a ride into Herman for Dinner and even stopped at the grocery store for us so we could restock our energy bar supply for the next day's ride. Breakfast was fabulous - Oatmeal buttermilk pancakes! We were the first riders of the season and this was a welcome stop. I would highly reccomend this B&B - thank you Maggie and Eldon.

We did an overnight to Herman from StL and I researched much on which B&B would be a great place to stay as well as a good value (cash is tight so we spend carefully). Well the reviews on this place are 100% correct, and THEN SOME! I feel this is not a place you just "stay" but a B&B that you are visiting old friends with Maggie and Eldon. Great hosts. Hilltop was written up in National Geographic Travelers magazine April 2004 with a few quotes from Maggie herself. Her oatmeal pancakes, sensational. Comlimentary rides are available to and from Herman so unless you want to pay more for a B&B in Herman, the value is very good. Maggie and Eldon are terrific hosts, I would love to have them as neighbors. The B&B is quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Stay here for a great experience and save a few dollars while you're at it. The quality at their rates are superb, I would recommend this place without hesitation. Side note: the restaurant at Stone Hill winery serves delicious food at reasonable prices. Make reservations just to be sure, it's not large.

OUTSTANDING!! My husband and I, along with 2 other couples, were bicycling the Katy Trail and chose this B&B from their website. We were so lucky to be welcomed by Maggie and Eldon. The rooms were great, the showers great, the views, the birds, everything. We both highly recommend this B&B to anyone, especially to those who may be cycling the Katy Trail. You are only 1/2 mile from the trailhead and it's so easy to find. Our breakfast the next morning was outstanding and certainly fit for cyclists. We all really enjoyed visiting with Maggie and Eldon and hearing their stories, especially laughing at some of these stories. This B&B is certainly among some of the top B&B's we have stayed in.

Thanks so much to Maggie and Eldon for welcoming us into your home. We really enjoyed our stay and hope to come back.

Stayed here May 19,20 and 21. Will be back!!!! Felt at home from the time we drove up the curving driveway to the hilltop. If you love birds, this is the place. Many, many different species. Beautiful home set on top of a hilltop with a meadow of grass on all sides. Very seculed. Front porch a lovely setting to begin your day with a cup of Maggie's coffee before a tasty breakfast and chat with other guests at the end of a delightful day on the trail. Wonderful people and wonderful bed and breakfast. Get's an A+ from us.

Maggie and Eldon know how to do a B&B right. Convenient shuttle service, friendly atmosphere, outstanding breakfast and comfortable accomodations. Plus a finch and hummindbird show that is a don't miss.

Carol from Arkansas on 09/29/2007 09:37 PM:
The hosts here are very friendly, they took us into Hermann so we could have dinner and afterwards gave us a tour of the town. Their house is lovely and very peaceful. A great breakfast feast! It is a climb getting up the driveway.

Larry Erickson from Seattle, WA on 10/23/2007 08:39 PM:
With other stops in Rocheport, Jefferson City, and Augusta, this was my wife's and my favorite stop along the Katy Trail. The place has the professionalism of many good B&Bs, but a visit with Eldon and Maggie is more like visiting your favorite aunt and uncle. They couldn't be more welcoming or accommodating. Maggie's breakfasts are great, and Eldon would probably, literally give you the shirt off his back if you needed it. They both have a great sense of humor, too, in the great tradition of Burns & Allen or Abbott & Costello. The place rests at the top of a hill with a serene view from the front porch, making the somewhat challenging ride up Maggie's Lane worth the effort. We'd have no hesitation going back.

My wife and I could not say enough about the hospitality of Maggie and Eldon, the owners of Meyers Hilltop Farm. They really make you feel at home and can't do enough to help you out.

While it is a little bit of a climb to the house up the driveway, the location only helps add to the peacefulness of the bed and breakfast. Also, the bird show out their dining area is fantastic. They fill their bird feeders all year and it pays off in that we saw a flock of goldfinches along with nuthatches, cardinals, blue jays, and woodpeckers. And out in the front area are the famous "guard donkeys" who love to eat crakers out of your hand.

One big reason we stayed at the Hilltop Farm is that it is so easy to get to off the trail, just about 1/4 mile to the north of it. The owners will also glady take you across the river in one of their vehicles to Herman, and then pick you up when you are done. They have a Herman restaurant menu selection in their house so you can get an idea of where you want to dine before you head over (we did Mexican food).

The morning of our departure, a cold front starting moving the area and was supposed to go stationary, with rain and thunderstorms for the next day or so. With this in mind, my wife and I decided to unfortunately end our Katy journey back east to St. Charles. In asking about about a shuttle service back to St. Charles, Maggie and Eldon recommended the bike shop in Herman, and with one call, we were set to have them pick us in a little over an hour from the time of our call and take us back to our van.

I would highly recommend the Meyers Hilltop Farm to anyone.

We had a wonderful stay there as well. Very nice hosts. They drove us over to Hermann for dinner and picked us up after. We enjoyed our get-a-way there very much.

What a wonderful couple. Meyer's Hilltop was a blessing after a long hot day on the trail. The hospitality was great, the breakfast was out of this world. Just what the doctor ordered.

Meyers Hilltop Farm is a slice of Heaven! If you find yourself in McKittrick, this is the place to stay! Eldon and Maggie are about the nicest, most thoughtful (and wicked sence of humors!)you'll find. The room was cozy and comfortable, clean and bright, and breakfast was unreal! I can't say enough about this wonderful B&B sitting up on top of the world. I miss them already!

We stayed with Eldon and Maggie for a night on our trip and had a great time at the Meyers Hilltop. The ride up the driveway was a great workout too! Need to do it a few times AFTER breakfast tho! Be sure to try Maggie's wonderful Oatmeal Pancakes!

Being from Fort Lauderdale, we are used to drivers trying to kill us but I would NOT want to cross the bridge into Hermann without a BIG group of cyclist or a van behind. So: Eldon and Maggie graciously offered to drive us to town. It is a nice town with good stores, a bakery, wineries, and restaurants. We ate at the Stone Hill Winery, wayyy up the hill. After tasting, we bought some very nice wines then headed to the restaurant. While the service was good, the food was nothing special.

Any good ideas/experiences for lodging (no camping) in or around McKittrick? This will be the end of our first day riding E to W the third week in June. We will be traveling light, so will need a place to wash our clothes. Thanks. !!

ET from Columbia, MO on 05/26/2005 08:59 AM:
We enjoyed our stay at the Doll's House, 4 miles west in Rhineland, a couple of years ago. Nothing fancy, but comfortable, right on the trail, and a hearty breakfast. I don't know about the places in McKittrick, and of course there's always the option of getting shuttled across the river to a B&B in Hermann (some ride that bridge, but I wouldn't).

W Family from Wildwood, Missouri on 06/06/2005 01:39 PM:
We stayed at Meyers Hilltop B&B in McKittrick 2 years ago and very much enjoyed it. There were animals on the property that our kids loved and the breakfast was outstanding.
