Mokane Lions Club Park in Mokane
me&Z + Travel Pup on 09/30/2022 09:17 AM:
Mokane Lions Club park is a large gravel parking lot. There are 5 covered pavilions with concrete floors. Some have picnic tables. A couple having over hanging eaves which may or may not keep a hammock dry.

The restrooms were open with running water but very dirty. Women's was ok if you ignored all the wads of TP on the floor but the men's was unusable. Both still smelled better than the vault toilet at the trail head.

Traffic on 94 and Fulton road was light enough to be unnoticed from about 9pm-5am. Train whistles were intermittent all night. But when Travel Pup need to go at 5am, we also heard chickens and cows. Had cell coverage near Fulton road but not toward the back of the lot.

Stayed here because of 2 flat tires (some kind of prickly thing on the trail). Hope this summary is helpful.

Planning an overnight trip to Mokane from Weldon Springs. Plan to camp in the park in Mokane. Any suggestions for water/restrooms along way and in Mokane? Any issues with trail from Weldon Springs to Mokane? Thanks for any insights - first bike camping trip.

Weldon Springs to Mokane is about 69 miles. Since this is your first "bikepacking" trip, keep in mind of the extra weight you will be carrying with you. That's a LONG ride if you are not used to it. As far as supplies, you can pick up everything you need at McKittrick at the Loutre Market before riding the last 24 miles to Mokane. I have never camped at Mokane, so I am not sure of the facilities there. However, there is a bar at Mokane (Muddy Bottoms) that has good food and is very bike-friendly. Call ahead to make sure they are open.

There is no designated campsite, no registration, no fee. We camped by the large pavilion at southwest corner of the park nearest the Katy Trail. There are toilets here, but they were locked at the time of our 10/09/20 (time of Covid) visit. We used the pit toilet & water spigot at the trailhead (100 yds away). The pavilion's lights and power were inactivated and we could find no other power source.

The local grocery and restaurant had closed (maybe permanently). There is a convenience store north out of town. I was told that the road conditions are risky. The road quiets down after dark. There is a VFW Club just north end of the park where you can get a drink. That will generate some late night noise.
