Portage Paddle Camp

Eric from KC, to answer your ?, I was replying to Carlos who used the "Paddle Camp in Machens" as a subject, who had obviously seen the map and was asking if it was a good place to stay, not how to get there.

Sorry for any confusion caused by this.

When you're on the page for a business (for example https://bikekatytrail.com/portage-paddle-camp.aspx), there is a link at the bottom of the page that you can click to create a Forum comment for that business.

When you click that link, it starts a new forum discussion, and the default subject of the discussion is:
[business name] in [Katy Trail town]
The default subject can be changed, but people usually just leave it.

In other words, because we have Portage Paddle Camp listed on the Machens page, that's the town that came up in the default subect. Usually this is the same town name, but occasionally it will happen when the business is in a town that is not one of the "official" Katy Trail towns. Another example would be some Chesterfield hotels that we have listed with Weldon Spring. Those hotels are not IN Weldon Spring, but that's the closest Katy Trail town - and the hotels are close enough to the trail that they merit listing within the website.

Having said all that, it would make sense for the default subject in the Forum to use the ACTUAL town where the business is located. I am adding this to my to-do list -- so in the near future you'll get a default subject of "Portage Paddle Camp in Portage des Sioux" if you start a forum discussion from that web page (and the same for allother businesses).

Puzzled why you as a local resident would add to the confusion by titling your post Portage Paddle Camp In Machens. It is located in Portage Des Sioux, Missouri, a distance by trail and road of five miles from Machens. Readers who don’t know by now should understand that Machens is the end of the trail and because it is surrounded by private property it is essentially a dead end trail requiring trail users to turn around and back track to Black Walnut or Ell Road to reach a public road. While it is possible to continue past Machens via private road and a rail crossing it is illegal and has been told to us repeatedly including by Missouri's Department of Natural Resources (Parks) This situation sucks and is unlikely to change as it is the will of that landowner.

Has anyone stayed at Portage Paddle Campground in Portage Des Sioux, MO? Would you recommend? Is it clean and safe? I can't find a phone number for them. How are the roads connecting Katy Trail to the campground? bikeable?
