I find Coopers to be a mixed bag. It's an amazing gathering place for some great eclectic people. There's never a shortage of folks to talk to around the camp fire, and the food at the Tai kitchen CAN NOT BE BEAT..seriously. I did find however that they were strange folks the time my wife and I went there and wanted to sit on a log near the fire and were told our little 5 pound lap dog that she never lets out of her lap-would have to go. We were told it was an eating area ? (No tables before us, no one eating and it made zero sense) A little nervous guy jumps out from nowhere makes a declaration and then slips back into his little hole not to be seen again. Well, that ruined the night right there, we left, and have since come back once without the dog. You can have beer, but not hard liquor... Interesting... All in all though ? If you're dog-less, it's worth the trip. Don't miss the awesome display of local musicians they rotate through there on friday and sat nights. Naked Dave ? You rock ! (a new fan) Me.

On our trek across Missouri last summer, we stopped at Coopers Landing to resupply with gatorade and water. The gentlman running the shop was friendly. We were very dissapointed with the portapotty as it was overflowing and needed to be emptied. We promptly renamed the spot "Poopers Landing". Other than that, it looks like a nice place to re-supply and eat a meal. We were not impressed with the camp-site as there are many other good places to camp along the way.

So, how far back in the woods do you think the boys at Cooper's have their illegal plants growing?

Those are some scary dude's. Kind of reminds me of a scene out of deliverance.

As a woman rider who has stopped there multiple times (many times alone), I have never had any reason to feel scared or not want to stop. I will say however, it took me a couple of rides before I actually stopped and went in because it doesn't look like your typical convenience store in a populated area. It was my loss. It's the only spot between Mcbaine and Hartsburg to get a cold drink or snack. If you're there at meal time...the Thai food is wonderful(not to take away from Mr. Cooper's bar-b-que which is equally good).
It's a good spot to stop, have a cold drink, good meal and sit and watch the river.
It is what it is.
Just my 2 cents worth.

You might remember the Missouri flooded about this time last year. I was hiking through that area when they were cleaning up after having 4 inches of water in the building. They guy said they usually didn't run the grill during the week but he stopped what he was doing and fired up the grill to feed me. Two thumbs up from me.

its a total Stienbeckian experience. a few drunks, bizzarre civil war cuttouts around a campfire and some really great Tai food,
an interesting shower experience(is that a closet or a bathroom?).
I doubt that anyone is in any danger there, just a bunch of goodold boy hippys but with a money making agenda, so I doubt that they would put up with any 5h1t that would give them a bad name. the owner was patient and kept open a few extra minutes to keep the showers open for me last time I was there. I cant wait to eat there again. really great tai food, and out of a trailer! it actually gets no better.

Those cutouts would more likely be related to Lewis and Clark than the Civil War. We ate at the Thai Kitchen last Friday night....a great time as usual. A big shout out to Lawrence who is in the middle of a Maine to California ride. We were honored to buy his supper and a beer or two.
