Does anyone know if there is a reservation process for the hostel? I just want to make sure I have a place to stay during my trip. Thanks.

There's really no reservation process. If the door isn't already unlocked the key is on the utility pole next to the shelter. The only caveat is that sometimes youth groups use the shelter and I have seen it full a couple of times - usually on the October weekend that a local church does a pilgrimage walk on the trail. Post the date you want to stay and I can check to see if any groups have asked to stay.

The pilgrimage walk mentioned above, happened to coincide with the first of 12 days on the katy last year for my wife and I. Last year we were told the number of walkers was near 800 people. I would imagine rooms could be hard to find.

The Starkenburg Pilgrimage this year is on Oct 15-17, from Jefferson City to Starkenburg.
