Has anyone biked from the Sedalia Amtrak station to the Holiday Inn Express (Hwy50/W.Broadway) in the evening? Is it safe/bike friendly?

I am planning our second trip on the KATY which will take place in June. I will be traveling with my two teenaged sons from St.Louis to Sedalia on the Amtrak and arriving at dusk (7:39pm).

Last year, we started in Columbia and biked to St. Charles. This year we want to start in Sedalia. Our first choice would be to stay at the Bothwell, but it is booked (wedding season). We can't take the earlier train and then stay in Boonville because there aren't enough racks left on that train. So, now looking into the HIEX but am a little worried about riding our bikes from the train station to the hotel and then back, given this looks like a highway.

Any suggestions, guidance would be appreciated.

I took the evening train from Washington to Sedalia last May and rode to the Chaplin RV Park to camp, which is just north of the Holiday Inn. The ride was fine. I went west on W Main St. You should be able to do the same. I wouldn't ride on Hwy 50. But It looks like you won't need to.

Thanks John. I had looked at W Main using Google street view and it looked busy and somewhat industrial, so good to hear you didn't have issues. HIEX it is.

Try Maxine's rooms for rent 4 blocks from the train station.
