I rode half of the trail in the end of April and was curious what the rather large lodge like looking building that is just north of Boonville that you go by before connecting back to the trail?

This is why you come to this site -- answers to your most trivial Katy Trail questions! If you are talking about the nice newer building with the large parking lot just north of the river on Hwy 87 (and just before/after you cross the Boonville bridge), the answer is that it was built to be a museum. Years ago (25? maybe) someone discovered a sunken steamboat near the site. The idea was to recover it and make it a tourist attraction, much like the popular Arabia steamboat museum in Kansas City. As I understand, the person putting it together passed away from cancer before ever seeing his dream fulfilled. I do not believe that a significant portion of the boat was even recovered before they started building the museum. The museum sits across the road from where Snoddy's store originally stood until the 1993 flood made the owners decide to move to their current location nearby.
