I see that Amtrak limits the number of bikes to 4 per train. My group of 6 is planning a ride with bikes. Has anyone had experience with Amtrak being flexible with their rule/limit of 4 or will we have to end up making other arrangements?

I don't believe there's any flexibility to be had. The bikes ride in a passenger car which has had seats removed to store the bikes. There is literally no room for more than 4.

Yes the website says 4 bikes. I would try to make some emails and/or calls for a group ride. This is a issue that has been discussed but I need to reach out a little farther on.
I do feel for you as I have a group that just approached me about 8 bicycles on a trip.
Amtrak has been hauling a few baggage cars since the UP has reported the train hasn't been long enough to show up on their computer system. So there is plenty of room.
