I just completed a thru-hike of the Katy Trail. I started October 14th and ended my hike on October 31st. I had 2 0 days and one 7 mile day. I ended up hiking 16 days with a average of 15-16 miles. This was one of the best long distance backpacking trips I’ve done. The towns and services were very good and the accommodations along the trail were outstanding. This is a perfect thru-hike for people wanting to see the beautiful Missouri River valley. The fall colors along with the beautiful people I met made this a trip for the books.

Don't hear of this often. Lots of cycling the entire trail but thru hiking, another story!
That is great, would love to read more about your hike.

I also hiked the trail but did it differently. It took me 21 days (average 10 miles) but I did it over a period of a year, starting in Clinton and walking various sections on different days. Did Clinton to McKittrick in 2017 (May, June, September, October) and McKittrick to St. Charles in a one week period in May 2018. I admire anyone who can hike the whole thing without stopping. Let me know if you want to hike it; I kept a record of all the bench locations! Ladies, no bathrooms except at trailheads.

I’d like to know more about walking/hiking the Katy. I’ve always dreamed of doing Englands Coast to Coast trek. I’d like to do a few days of something state side before I commit! Lol
Is there Sherpa service available for those on foot? Did you find accommodations at appropriate day hike distances?
Thanks!!!

Bill in Houston from Houston on 10/5/2019 10:38:30 AM:
Hi, Mary.

What's an appropriate day hike distance? Like 4 miles, or like 40?

Do you want to camp, or sleep in a bed?

I think that sherpa services are available in certain times of the year, but they are quite expensive.

I’ve decided to thru-hike the Katy Trail again this year.
I’ve decided to depart Clinton on 10/12/2019...anyone interested let me know!
