Hello,
I'm a newbie to the Katy Trail. Although I did have some solo bicycle touring experiences, it's always nice to have local's advice. :)

I plan to ride my bicycle (Jamis CodaSport, Schwalbe Marathon Plus 700*35) from Warrensburg to St. Louis on Dec 18th to 23rd. Two closed parts seem no detour, I was wondering if anyone had any update about these two parts. Like, are they totally blocked?

-- MM 96.9 to MM 97.1, at Case and slightly west (beg. 7/8/19) flooding - No recommended detour
-- MM 117 to MM 118, west of Portland (beg. 8/16/19) flooding - No recommended detour

Any information would be truly appreciated. Many thanks! :)

haven't been on or seen the trail but it's been dry here (jc mo) for a few weeks. so it should be in good shape..unfortunatly, i don't have any information regarding the closed sections. try dept of natural resources?? perhaps they could help...safe travels..

Not closure related but the 15th and 16th weather prediction for Boonville is for snow. 1-3 inches on the 15th day with the same for that evening and on Monday morning. Only a prediction for a couple of days before your adventure, but potential for several inches of snow. My concern would be cold December weather and potential snow.

I think what this says is.....
Dress in Layers and Bring your FATTY bikes.
Having ridding the Katy in Snow, many times, it is hard going. The snow is NOT groomed for riding bicycles as it is out west, such as Mickelson Trail in SD.

At mm 118 you can take the gravel out to 94 and ride maybe 1/2 mile where it comes over the trail and loop down to the left onto the trail. At mm 97 there is a bridge gap that is EASILY bypassed. I am at mm 110.8 and will be having a solstice bonfire on the 21st if you want to stop by. I have one room available plus camping. The Barn. I will also be glad to answer any questions you have if you want to call.

Thanks for the response. Yup, I noticed the winter storm and am carefully watching it. I'm in St. Louis at this moment and the snow is actually not too bad. Will wait and see. Fingers crossed.
