I've also been told that you can get around the closure near Portland by using the adjacent roads, but have not been able to get specific details. If anyone has details of how to detour the Portland closure, please share.
The missing portion of trail near Machens looks pretty bad; I don't think you'll get around that. See the photo on the Trail Conditions page, where you will see info on trail conditions, as reported by other trail users:
