This weekend I'm looking to do a century ride from Boonville to McKittrick. I'm looking on Katy Trail website for trail conditions, but would appreciate any detour route information, seeing I'm not familiar with the area (county road, highway conditions, etc). If you have a ridewithgps route with these detours built in that would be very helpful. Thanks!

My kids and I did the trail from North Jefferson City to Machens this last weekend. Others will tell you about the major detour between Booneville and Rocheport. Our trail conditions were very good except for a rock slide before Portland. There are signs marking the trail being closed and the detour is supposed to be on Hwy 94. Although there is not much traffic, what there was is pretty fast. We had to climb two very significant hills (about 1.5 miles) with blind spots after passing Logan's creek. There does seem to be a road that cuts in on the map right after the creek, it is marked Private Property so we didn't take a chance (might want to check this out). After that, we cut into Portland and everything else went smoothly. Sounds like a great time, have fun!

Just finished a North Jefferson to Weldon Spring ride this last week. For the rock slide west of Portland, you do not have to take 94 all the way into Portland (we did, and later discovered we missed a shorter route). If going west to east, shortly after you cross Logan creek on 94, turn left on county road 476 (this is only about 500 feet after you cross the creek), then immediately turn left to go down the road to the trail. With this detour you should only be on 94 for about .8 of a mile.

Yes, looking back at a map previously posted that would have been a great "shortcut" for us. It was very stressful doing the 2 hills at dusk and pulling a 75 lb trailer. Highly recommend Dean's suggestion if you can find the road by Logan's creek.

Susan, if you want to do a century, you might consider starting at Rocheport and going to Marthasville (100.5 miles). If you start in Boonville, you will have to deal with that major detour just 10 miles in.

Susan, did you get to go ride?
