I just added a detailed description in another separate post of what I think is the best route from the Lee's Summit Amtrak station to the Rock Island Trail in Pleasant Hill. Hopefully my post description title can be easily searched because this questions comes up over and over.
As far as parking goes, street parking is limited in Downtown Lee's Summit so the businesses don't really want you using up all of those spots. Three blocks to the east is the parking garage for Lee's Summit City Hall and the downtown area (near 2nd Street and Green).
That garage parking is always free and they would prefer that you park there. I would also call the City of Lee's Summit Police and let them know that you are parking there just so they can keep an eye out on your vehicle, especially if it has out of state plates.
