Wanting to ride the entire trail at the end of October. Is is doable just to wing it with lodging along the way or should I make reservations? Also, are there alot of businesses closed due to Covid19?

Given the possibility of rainy, cold weather and the rising rate of COVID infection in Missouri, I'd prepare as much as possible by researching and booking lodging ahead of time. But that's just me.

I'm planning to ride St. Charles to Sedalia 3nd week in October and am booking my hotels all in advance. Everything in Hermann is booked solid on weekends. You might find something mid-week in Rhineland, Herman & Augusta...., but I'd sure reserve in advance. Very busy because of Octoberfest, Wine Tours, Changing leaves, etc. Have also found that rates are really increased a lot for weekends...sometimes double the mid-week rate. I wouldn't want to bike all day, and then have to waste a lot of time trying to find a place to sleep.
