Of the many things I enjoy about riding the Katy Trail are the starry nights, fireflies, critters, creeks, MO culture, and PEOPLE you cross paths with along the way.

Doug, owner of the Bluffton Barn, his dogs Freckles and Spot, along with his nearby neighbor were highlights yesterday.

I heard critter stories and a recording of good local string-band music; held beautiful, handmade, deer tibia jewelry; learned about blackpowder, and events called “Rendevous”; all the while enjoying a cold, refreshing MO beer supplied by my host after my hot and humid ride (that’s Missouri!).

I was down to my last two carrots and a pint of peanut butter. Doug offered to make me a mighty good meal to be followed by homemade, scratch German chocolate cake, and dining al fresco for short change :-).

I stayed overnight in an air conditioned room in the old farmhouse —which does have a full-kitchen. It’s “down-home” as I like to say, not posh, and quite comfortable.

Many thanks to Doug for catering to cyclists on the Katy with kindness, rich stories and conversation, and options to suit the needs and pocketbooks of his guests.
