We just finished several days on the Katy (Pilot Grove to Hermann) and wanted to report in on three things, in case they are helpful.
1. We found the Katy Trail spur into N Jefferson Recreation Area to be kind of poorly marked, both directly from the trail and then to get to the primitive camp sites along the river. The spur starts from the parking lot at the N Jeff signposts, running perpendicular to the Katy, to the south. We knew it (the spur trail) was there, but wish there had been a sign posted eastbound with an arrow to confirm.
2. The Muddy Bottoms location in Mokane is no longer open.
3. The ride from the Katy Trail into Hermann follows the highway (as the tri-fold Katy Trail map says), but you need to lookout for the bike path that leaves the highway before the bridge over the river. If you miss it, you have to stay on the highway and it’s altogether unpleasant.

Aside from these three things, our ride was EXCELLENT. We benefitted from last week’s rain and trail conditions couldn’t have been better. Leaves were beautiful colors, temps for camping were crisp but not unbearable and everyone along the trail was so friendly.
