A friend hiked the Trail and stayed with Doug and called him “a national treasure” and the stay was the highlight of his trip…and he was not wrong! Doug was the consummate host: provided beer (put $ in the beer kitty) and he cooked Corn on the Cob and shared his homemade German Chocolate Cake. The camping was in Doug’s expansive yard…and I was the only camper. And the indoor bathroom and nice shower was a plus. All for $11! Doug also has indoor sleeping facilities. I stayed with Doug on the way to Clinton and the reverse trip to St.Charles. (he had fresh green bean casserole, corn on the cob and fresh roasted peppers…. and you will enjoy his stories and conversations! Sadly, he is selling his place so if you want to experience his hospitality, better visit soon!!!!

Thanks for the kind words Bill! Just wanted to let people know The Barn is for sale but no buyer yet. Hoping it will be someone that wants to continue it but until then I will still be here as long as health allows because it has been a heck of a good lifestyle for me to be out here and have guests like you to share evenings with.
