We're wondering how the Katy 225 BAM run the last week of October impacts public usage on the trail and lodging/camping availability? We're considering a ride from Rocheport to St. Charles starting on the 24th or 25th and we just learned about this event. Maybe another time would be better? Feedback appreciated!

If you start on the 25th it shouldn’t impact you at all. The deadline to reach the Rocheport aid station is 3:00pm on the 24th. The deadline to reach the Turner Shelter aid station in Tebbetts is 12:00pm on the 25th so they will be moving at a pretty good clip.

I was told yesterday (10/12) that this event has been cancelled. Apparently the Department of Natural Resources informed the race directors just this week that the race permit would be denied unless all the runners are pulled from the course at night. Which of course does not work for an ultra footrace.

I can't find any additional information about the cancellation online, and I'm not sure why the DNR would allow this event to be planned for months, only to pull the plug at the 11th hour.

Of course the official park rules are that the trail's closed after dark, but surely nobody expected all the participants to run 225 miles in under 11 hours.

I agree Ray. The fact that they pulled it this late will cost the organizers and participants a substantial amount of money. It is also pretty bad publicity for Missouri and the Katy.

Looking at the race sponsors website, it does not indicate that the race is cancelled.

In the event there was confusion on trail logistics, a discovery could be made at the last minute.

Without knowledge of the sponsor or the DNR planning efforts I’m hard pressed to do anything other than give benefit of doubt and assume positive intent.
