Most posters here don't recommend long term parking at the North Jefferson trailhead. I haven't done it and wouldn't either...not one to leave my car over nite in the middle of nowhere. If riding the Amtrak, why not leave your car at the Amtrak station? Yes....you'd have to ride across the bridge, but the Mighty MO is not so wide that it's unbearable.
That is a very doable ride....I've done it both ways Sedalia to Jeff and back, but camping at the Roundhouse in New Franklin. It's only 45 miles from North Jefferson to New Franklin and then 39 on to Sedalia. You can rent a tent and a spot to pitch it for less than $20 a nite. Not a bad deal if camping is your thing....take the thermarest to sleep on tho. When I made that trip a year ago, the campground owner let me leave the tent up for the return trip, so I only had to set the tent up and take it down once being he knew I was coming back through in couple of days.
With the low miles on this trip, you'll have plenty of time for trip to the Bistro on the bluff at Rocheport. Pasta and wine make for a good trip.
