We stayed here in mid-May. Yes, there are a couple of cats, but they are unobtrusive and slept all of the time. I did not notice a cat smell, nor did I think the Globe was rundown. The owner is gracious and is trying to make a nice bed and breakfast. She even allows campers in the back yard.

We stayed here the week before Memorial Day and I did not notice a cat smell either. The cats are not allowed in the rooms, and we didn't see them unless we went looking for them.

I wasn't happy about the shared baths - until I saw them. There are three - one with a shower, one with a tub, and one with just a toilet. Plus sinks in every room. VERY comfortable, wonderful breakfast and she had lemonade for us the minute we arrived.

Funny you should mention the cats. There are a trio of dogs that roam freely around town that I refer to as "The Hartsburg welcoming comittee" .

I stayed at the Globe Hotel in late May 2008 on my Colorado Springs to Ohio bike ride. The Globe and the innkeeper, Jeanette were both fantastic. I arrived late in the day with no reservation and she was there when I needed her-it was too late to go to the next town. There were cats there, but I didn't consider them a problem. Very welcoming B & B and recommended. Nice bar just a couple doors down from the B & B and I do agree with a previous poster that Hartsburg is a low key town.
