Be aware that are repeated car break ins at the north River view trail e city is not doing anything about it. We (and a couple visiting from Italy) had credit cards stolen from our car while on a ride at the Rte 66 parking lot near the Chain of Rocks bridge. The officers said they have asked to do a sting but were turned down by the city. It has been going on for months! The criminals had made charges on our card within 1 hour, so they had it down. They had even closed a parking lot due to so many break ins, but had no signs warning people. STAY AWAY from this part of St. Louis.

Just to avoid any confusion - this is not on or near the Katy Trail - the Riverfront Trail runs along the Mississippi River from just a bit north of the Gateway Arch, up to the Chain of Rocks Bridge (a very cool and very long pedestrian/bike-only bridge). This has been a well-known problem for months, and it's quite disappointing that the city of St Louis doesn't seem to care.

While we're on the topic, here's a page I put together that discusses how to get from the Katy Trail to downtown St Louis and the Riverfront Trail.
