I was planning a 2 day trip from Columbia to St. Charles this Memorial Weekend, but am prepared to cancel after this past week of storms. I am only a leisure rider in fair shape on a crossover bike. Can anyone comment on conditions and possible flooding, and would you recommend I postpone this trip?

Matt, I think there's a link to conditions on this website, or you can go directly to DNR's site: www.mostateparks.com/advisories and get the most recent updates. The one dated today sounds worrisome. DNR staff do a great job of cleaning up problems, but sounds like they have a lot to deal with. Also, as of 5/23 it said from mile marker 103 to 107 the trail is closed. Hopefully people who are on the trail now will probably get on here tonight and give you an update. Also try calling some of the businesses along the trail and see what they say: the Big Muddy in Hartsburg, Portland has a bar very close to the trail (they make excellent hamburgers), etc. Good luck.

No problems Treloar to St. Charles(MM85 to MM40). I believe the closure at Rhineland(MM107 to MM 103), assuming you can't bike through that yet, can be biked via HWY 94 fairly easily. River levels will likely be high for the section McBaine to Hartsburg, but it looks like it will be passable. There supposedly is another low section around Portland, but I've never seen this flooded myself.
