We just finished biking the Katy trail and we stayed at b/b's along the way. But by far the best was the High Street Victorian in Boonsville. The hospitality was exceptional along with the breakfast. If you are staying in Boonsville, I would recommend this Inn.
Also, we biked into St Louis and had no problems getting across the city and into downtown. It was about 30 miles from St Charles but well worth the effort. We used the Route 2 suggestion from this web site.
And finally, don't rush riding the trail. The most fun was stopping in the small towns and talking with locals.
