Fenders anyone?

Does anyone out there have any thoughts on use of fenders on a touring bike when on the Katy? Do they help with the grime? Does the limestone chat accumulate under the fenders in wet conditons and cause problems?

I've been using the trail for 20 years, and I got tired of getting water and dirt on my back, so I put fenders on. They work great and do not get clogged up. I highly recommend them

Might add dust/mud-flaps too.
