The new Machens trailhead is in and has a restroom but no car access. I drove around 94 hiway and all of the farm roads for quite sometime trying to find a way to the Katy trail. Even the local people in Portage des sioux didn't know where it was. There are no Katy trail signs on hiway 94 like you find everywhere else along the trail to point you in the right direction. Also there is no sign for Machen. There is a Machen Rd and if you go down this road and cross the railroad track and turn to the left you will see the trailhead. Very well hidden. I did, however, discover "Our Lady of the River" in my adventures around Portage des soiux and that was an unexpected pleasure.
