Streets in St. Charles - safe riding?

We are planning a trip from Clinton to St. Charles. We are wondering about lodging in St. Charles - the bed & breakfasts are a bit too pricey for us, but we would still like a clean, air-conditioned room to relax in after the ride. We are looking at the Fairfield Inn on Veterans Memorial Pkwy. Is there a safe way to ride there? It looks like we would maybe ride on Boones Lick Rd and Fairground Rd. Any tips would be appreciated!

Not sure what too pricey means, but found a b and b in St. Charles for 85 for two. Seemed reasonable to me.

just rode the trail from clinton to st charles and stayed at the comfort inn suites on south 5th st. one block from ameristar casino, where I won $163.00, so it paid for my $125.00 jucuzzi room. about a 5 block walk to mainstreet shopping.
