I am considering riding the trail during Spring Break 2013. Has anybody done that and what was it like? What kind of weather should I expect? temperatures?

Thanks,
Helge

From US Climate Data for March...

Average high in °F: 54
Average low in °F: 33
Average precipitation - inch: 3.15

I had ridden the KATY on many days in March.

In my opinion, a bigger challenge than the weather will be finding places to resupply water, etc. as many of the stores are seasonal.

No. To date no one has ridden the Katy over Spring Break 2013.

Play your cards right and you can be the first.

DNR waits until 4/1 to turn the water on and unlock the bathrooms at trailheads that have water and bathrooms. If you are a hardy soul (can stand the weather, see previous post about average temps) and can plan ahead and carry the water you need, and manage without bathrooms, you'll be fine.

I rode the trail from Clinton to St. Charles the last week in March 2010 and it was cool 40s-50s in the morning and the trail was rough (branches down with some washed out areas), and soggy in spots west of Sedalia. As everyone said nothing was open but I used private businesses for water as much as I could. The weather turned unseasonably warmer east of Boonville getting into the 60s-70s at midday but still pretty windy. You will need extra planning as my wife was my SAG with extra water and food in isolated areas. But it was very fun with the spring weather with very few riders on the trail the entire distance.
