We have a small window of opportunity soon to ride a portion the Katy Trail. Is there approximately a 50 mile stretch that is more scenic than others?

My vote...Rocheport to Hartsburg and back (25 miles each way).

Wherever you decide to ride...Enjoy!

Thanks we will look into that stretch.

Hermann (McKittrick) to St. Charles. River crossing at Hermann, river views west of Treloar, great small towns of Marthasville, Dutzow, Augusta and Defiance, nice open ag vistas, great tree canopy tunnels, great food and restaurants, river bottom forest (near wilderness for a stretch) at Weldon Spring, then wonderful historic and semi-urban St. Charles.

If 50 mi one way, I'd say Rocheport to Columbia and back to HArtsburg, which I did a couple of weeks ago.
Very nice!

This years Fall Katy ride for us will probably be Rocheport to Jefferson City. The river bluffs east of Rocheport are worth the trip as well as those east of Jefferson City. Not quite a 50 mile ride one way, but very pretty. There is a lot to see around Rocheport with the tunnel, railroad history (ammunitions bunker, etc.), cave, ancient writing on the bluffs, etc. The spur to Columbia is pretty more near town and ends in a nice part of old downtown near MU campus.

Keep in mind that lodging may be difficult if you are going in October. Everyone's last Katy fling, MU football, Octoberfests, etc. tend to fill up most places well in advance.

In addition to what Trek wrote there is also the Monster Bash from Columbia to Rocheport on the 20th of this month, so watch out for goblins on that day! I'll be one of them! =)

I tried to maneuver the tandem through "Bash Junction" (Hindeman Junction) a few years ago. It was very crowed and somewhat difficult to get through. I wasn't one to argue with the Mad Scientist though, after seeing the milk cow that he'd created!

I would agree with some... one stretch would be Boonville to Jeff City. Very scenic and full of history. Jeff City to Herman area is very pretty, but not much going on at the stops. You'll get a wide variety of scenes though.

LOL, Trek! I don't blame you for skipping out on that conflict! I've been on the Boone Dawdle and the Pedalers Jamboree, but not this one! However, I'm thinking my "Biker Gang - The Trek's" will rumble on through the Katy on our hawgs for a good time! Should be fun!
