I see several folks are talking about riding on the Trail the week of June 17. Just a heads up that the DNR ride is that week going from Clinton to St. Charles with overnights in Sedalia, Columbia, Mokane and Marthasville. If you are planning a solo trek that week, be mindful of the 300 riders who will be doing the state sponsored ride. Or, maybe you want to join in the fun as a day rider! http://mostateparks.com/2013-katy-trail-ride

And conversely for all of the DNR riders, be mindful that there are others on the trail who would like to enjoy their ride also.

You are correct Anon. Most of the annual DNR riders are newbies and trail etiquette has not been understood yet. Similar to the Pedalers Jamboree baby stroller group this year. Its all a good time though.

you are so wrong about the dnr riders.

I would say that most of the DNR riders are very experienced riders as many of them do this ride every year and have for years. There isn't much room for newbies on a ride like the DNR ride - you have to have some miles on the saddle to make it. Very different crowd then that of the Peddlars Jamboree.

I happen to have some experience, as you may, doing the DNR ride and when the director asked who was doing it for the first time, over half the crowd in the Clinton school auditorium raised their hands in 2011. Also on the KT when stopping at organized water/food stops one could not get through the crowds "on the trail". Being able to do 40-50 miles in a full day is not the only qualifier for the DNR KT ride. Hope the storms didn't have the tent campers last night have to go into the buildings. Save ride this year newbies.

We had people from all over the US and at least one from Canada on the DNR ride this year. Just because they are riding the Katy for the first time does not make them inexperienced trail riders.
