I'm starting to plan for a complete ride of the trail in June 2014. How early do B&Bs starting getting full? I know some require immediate payment, and I'd rather not pay for a room 9 months in advance, but I also don't want to be shut out.

Probably not real early in June but it depends on what is happening locally. The DNR ride is in June which could be an issue for you. Contact the places you want to stay to find out their specific billing policy and when you need to reserve if you really want to know. That way you'll know for sure and hopefully won't be disappointed next June.
