So, I'm looking at staying the night in St. Charles, but it seems there is no camping. Any recommendations for someone on a camping budget? We would be in Augusta the previous night and headed to St. Louis for pickup the next day.

Like you have found, no legal camping near St. Charles. Best to go straight from Augusta to St. Louis.

I'll be on a fully loaded tandem with a nine-year-old. We're doing the whole trail and I don't know if I'll have that much left in the tank by the last day or two. How about hotel bargains?

I would check with the Lococo House for lodging and shuttle into St. Louis.

360 Lakeside Park is open and has camping. I've looked and it seems you could get there by back road and dirt road.

It's a big flat park, few trees (they were killed in a flood), but nice lake.

I mean 370 Lakeside Park.

Since I'd posted this I've worked over the plans a bit and we will be staying at a hotel in St. Charles for one night. It will be ashort ride from Augusta to St.C, but we have added the Lewis and Clark museum to our itinerary as well as Bass Pro Shops :-) This will give us plenty of time to dawdle our way through St. Louis on our last day of riding and stop where we feel like stopping under no pressure of time and rest. Thanks for all the input!!!
