I have spring break starting March 14th, I'm from Wisconsin, wondering what the trail conditions are typically like around mid to late March.

Stevo, it's a changing time of the year on the KT. I did a west to east end to end the last week of March in 2011 and its was 40-50s in the west with soft trail and it turned the second day into 60s with sun, windy and dry trail for the rest of the week. So if you choose a date be prepared for the full scope of weather and bring at least 40s light warm rain gear.

It's rare that we would have much snow in March, but a couple of years ago we had 10" one night, so anything can happen. The worst conditions in March would be the first day of a thaw after a hard freeze, when the limestone dust is holding onto a lot of water. Think about riding in wet beach sand and you get the idea. But the Katy seems to firm up faster than most limestone trails I ride. The temps can swing from 30 to 70 in March. The wind will be a factor because there won't be any foilage. The good news is that it is too early for tornadoes!

I certainly would keep it open on your schedule as a possibility as long as you can....then check the 10 day forecast before you leave home.

I've ridden it during that week of March and had perfectly good weather and trail conditions. Double check that housing options are open and plan to carry some water as the trailhead water won't be turned on. As noted above, weather can be variable. Hope it turns out to be a great week of weather and a great ride...
