Is the Katy Trail suitable for recumbent bikes?
Thank you.

I don't ride those myself, but I see guys in recumbents often on the Katy.

Jim from Arvada CO on 2/23/2014 10:09:02 PM:
I've read about other recumbent riders taking on the Katy and no problems. I'm also planning to ride it on my recumbent as well.

Where can't you ride a recumbent? What surfaces or conditions prevent riding a recumbent?

I rode along with a couple guys on recumbent trikes last year. The only thing they noticed was there was more dust/grit closer to their face due to the lower sitting position. They just didn't follow directly behind anyone and everything was fine.

In 2003 I rode the trail Clinton to ST Charles and back, self contained. My bike was a Tour Easy. Be sure to use tire liners, such as mr tuffies or Kevlar tires. I've rode on the trail a couple of times since then. Recumbents are the only way to go.

Sure recumbent are good for the KT, but you need some type of bright ID or flags since at those heights you are difficult to see with the bushes and angled road crossings.

Always make sure crossings are clear before entering. The cars have the right of way.
