Just got back from riding the Katy for the first time in a couple of months - great to be back. The trail is in great condition except for the soft areas that had seen some traffic when we had a brief thaw a few weeks, ago. These areas have hardened up but there are big ruts and gouges that makes things a little bumpy if you are riding a bike. Things smooth out a couple mile out of the trailheads, though. There are geese nesting in the bluffs downstream of Rocheport and occasionally you will see them loafing on the trail. They can be a tad "aggressive" if you get too close hissing and puffing up a bit. This is normal just give them a wide berth - they won't "attack" you. They nest there every year. A few years ago somebody killed one and it was just very sad and I like to goose hunt. These geese are NESTING though, folks so leave them alone. If you back off a bit it's really quite interesting to see them fly in and out of the bluffs and if you are extremely lucky you will get to see a gosling launch. Not for a little while, though.
